Abington will play home to a naturalization ceremony for those becoming U.S. residents.

St. Mary & St. Kyrillos Coptic Orthodox Church will be the gathering place of worship for Christian Egyptians, once completed next year on Unionville Pike in Hatfield Township
Christian Egyptians in Hatfield Township and the surrounding area will have a new gathering place for worship in 2014 on Unionville Pike at Stratford Avenue. On Saturday afternoon, local Christian Egyptians, their friends and family — along with local political figureheads — came out en masse to the huge open space next to the Hatfield Township Public Works building for a religious ceremony and groundbreaking for the St. Mary & St. Kyrillos Coptic Orthodox Church. The groundbreaking ceremony was led by Bishop David, the general bishop and partiarchal exarch of the Archdiocese of North America, along with St. Mary & St. Kyrillos Church Rev. Father Antonious Salib. The word "Copt" is derived from the Greek word for "Egypt" and was used to …

Lansdale Borough Manager Timi Kirchner and Council President Matt West recognized borough employees for their aid and support during Hurricane Sandy's melee
When Hurricane Sandy hit in Lansdale, the definition of "teamwork" went into effect. On Wednesday night, Lansdale Borough staff were honored and recognized for their brave help during the hurricane. "What time to honor local goverment than when it is the most responsive," said Lansdale Borough Manager Timi Kirchner Wednesday night at the award ceremony. "We are seeing Lansdale's finest here." Kirchner said staff was in the command center at Fairmount Fire Co., at Lansdale Borough Hall and at Lansdale Police Department to make sure everyone was safe, that the lights stayed on and that the roads were passable throughout the night. A small, intimate ceremony for Veterans Day was held on the grounds outside Morgan Log House Sunday morning. The township is planning on making ceremonies for Veterans Day, Memorial Day and Flag Day annual events at the historic property
Veterans Rob Ford and Dan Littley looped Old Glory around the rope on a flagpole outside Morgan Log House Sunday morning in Towamencin, and saluted her as she was raised up the pole. A tiny gathering of other veterans and citizens followed suit, proud to pay their respects on Veterans Day. "This is a day where the services of the military are one," said Littley. "We want to try and establish a setting here for our ceremony for Veterans Day." The Morgan Log House has existed at its location since around 1708, when it was deeded in a land purchase by Daniel Boone's grandfather, Edward Morgan. Its history goes back to William Penn himself, who granted 600 acres to Griffith Jones in 1702 in the property's first deed. Today, the property and …

Chief Richard J. Brady Bridge was dedicated Friday morning at a ceremony on the Route 202 Parkway, featuring state Reps. Kate Harper and Todd Stephens, and state Sen. Stewart Greenleaf
It’s going to be the only time Richard Brady is OK with being runover. The former Montgomery Township Police Chief is now forever a part of the Route 202 Parkway — at least in name and honor. State Sen. Stewart Greenleaf, State Rep. Kate Harper and State Rep. Todd Stephens unveiled a sign Friday morning designating the Route 202 Parkway bridge over Route 309 as “Chief Richard J. Brady Bridge.” According to The Reporter’s Bradley Schlegel, Brady was at a loss for words at the ceremony. In his speech, Brady said it was a “great honor” and that few people get to see this kind of honor “while they are still alive,” according to the article. Read more on the ceremony at this The Reporter link. Read more about Brady at these links:

St. Stanislaus Elementary is now Mater Dei. Thursday morning saw the opening prayer for and blessing of the new school - not to mention the welcoming of students from St. Maria Goretti and St. Rose of Lima
It’s still St. Stanislaus. No matter how you look at it — Mater Dei Catholic School, formerly St. Stanislaus Elementary until the St. Rose, St. Goretti and St. Stans Archdiocese merger — will always be St. Stans. It’s not blasphemous to say: it’s the people, not the building. After all, Philadelphia Archbishop Charles Chaput said it too — “The most important part of the parish is the people.” New school was old school Thursday morning as Chaput and the Mater Dei faculty, students and parents, blessed and dedicated Mater Dei Catholic School. New faces, same faces, different places, familiar places. Thursday was the collection of students from St. Stanislaus, St. Maria Goretti Elementary in Hatfield and St. Rose of Lima Elementary in North …

The beginning of Hanukkah is marked by the lighting of the menorah at Railroad Plaza
A small group of Jewish residents weathered the cold and rain on Tuesday night, coming together to celebrate the beginning of Hanukkah by lighting the ceremonial menorah at Railroad Plaza. "[The ceremony] started with Mike DiNunzio going to a friend of his -- Dalzk Feith -- who was a concentration camp survivor and wealthy businessman who is since deceased," said Alan Gold, who has coordinated the lighting for more than a decade. "[Feith] gave $50,000 to construct the menorah and sponsor it every year so we wouldn't need to rely on public funds." Prior to the lighting, the group huddled underneath a tent, singing holiday-themed songs before saying a few prayers. Afterwards, two extremely excited children raced to the electric plug to …
