This is an ongoing and updated list of local Hurricane Sandy cleanup efforts in the North Penn, Indian Valley and beyond. Email volunteerism efforts to tony.didomizio@patch.com. The Towamencin Soccer Club U9F Tornadoes and U12F Tigers are coordinating a collecting effort on Saturday, Nov. 10 at Grist Mill Park fields from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The park and fields are at the corner of Forty Foot Road and Allentown Road. Collection will be delivered to Fairview Village Church in Eagleville, who will then deliver to New York and New Jersey. Here are needed items in their effort on Saturday: The Gutter Guys at Route 309 and Trewigtown Road in Colmar are collecting clothes, blankets, pots, pans, silverware, dog food and more for hurricane victims…

Lansdale Borough Manager Timi Kirchner assesses the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy — and what staff is doing to beautify Lansdale Borough in its aftermath
Lansdale Borough Manager Timi Kirchner estimated it could take up to two weeks to clean up all the branches and debris in its various parks. She said parks staff and director Carl Saldutti have inspected all parks and assessed damage. "There are a number of trees either snapped off or uprooted in various park locations within the park system," she said in a statement to Montgomeryville-Lansdale Patch. "To date, the footpaths and parking lots have been cleared of down trees and fallen limbs." Lansdale Parks and Recreation focused its clean up on those paths used by schoolchildren. Local Patch editors from Montgomery County volunteered all day Thursday to clean trash from the Cross County Trail in Plymouth Meeting and Conshohocken. For the Patch and Aol Give 5 Day, eight Patchers from Montgomery County volunteered and cleaned up nearly a ton of trash from the Cross County Trail.
What does it say about us as a people in this ecosystem when nearly a ton of trash is collected from either side of a two-mile trail? It says there’s a whole hell of a lot more to go. For the volunteer Give 5 program of Patch and Aol, seven local editors of Patch sites of Eastern Pennsylvania One-Regional One spent seven hours Thursday discarding trash from the Cross County Trail. In the end, we collected 34 bags of trash, each weighing about 50 pounds. That is 1,700 pounds—more than three-quarters of a ton—of trash. In seven hours.
