North Penn School District is closing all district buildings at 6 p.m. today, due to the forecasted winter weather. All buildings will remain closed until 1 p.m. Saturday. The district announced that all school and community activities scheduled between 6 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday will not be held and may be rescheduled. The Friendly’s at Airport Square Shopping Center on Route 309 in Montgomeryville has closed its doors for good Sunday afternoon, making way for Bonefish Grill to open at the location in the next few months. Mike Goldberg of The Reporter writes that a work crew was hauling out kitchen equipment, booths and more to a moving truck. The franchise owner, Jeff Blum, of AKZ Delaware Valley Hospitality Inc., told Goldberg the owner of the property — Gateway DC Properties Inc., under Metro Commercial of Mount Laurel, NJ — opted not to renew the lease. Blum operates 11 other Friendly’s restaurants, including one in Ft. Washington, according to the article. Blum was also the franchisee of the Friendly’s that closed earlier this year in Hatfield …

Borough offices are closed Monday, but staff will be available to take calls from residents
Lansdale Borough Manager Timi Kirchner announced Sunday night that Lansdale has activated its Emergency Management Plan in anticipation of Hurricane Sandy. "(The borough) stands ready to respond to any incidents that result from Hurricane Sandy," Kirchner said. Work crews from all borough departments will be available throughout the duration of the storm. Borough offices are closed Monday, but staff will be available to take calls from borough residents. Non-emergency calls for Lansdale should be made at 215-368-1691. All emergencies in the borough should go through 9-1-1.

Towamencin Police are attempting to identify the driver
Allentown Road was closed for several hours Monday morning between Weikel Road and Valley Forge Road following a one-vehicle accident where the driver struck a utility pole near Inglewood Elementary School. Towamencin Township Police are attempting to identify the driver, who is an adult male and the only occupant of the vehicle, police said. The man was transported to Abington Memorial Hospital via Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale after suffering injuries in the accident, police said. The man was conscious at the scene. The accident occurred around 5:11 a.m. at Woodlawn Drive and Allentown Road. Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012 Update Supervisors Monday night unanimously approved the intermunicipal liquor license transfer for Bonefish Grill, which is poised to open at the current Friendly's location at Airport Square Shopping Center. The liquor license will be transferred from the now closed Solaris Grille, which was located at 2665 Skippack Pike in Worcester, according to township documents. The closest licensed establishment is Romano's Macaroni Grill, located 300 feet away, according to township documents. Giant announced its Genuardi's-to-Giant conversion schedule
The Genuardi's in Upper Gwynedd at West Point Pike/Church Road and Sumneytown Pike will officially cease business on June 28 at 6 p.m. and reopen as a Giant Food Store on July 8 at 8 a.m. Today, Giant Food Stores, out of Carlisle, Pa., announced its schedule for converting 15 Philadelphia-area Genuardi’s stores to Giant stores. The conversion will take place in three “phases,” the first of which will begin June 28. Five stores will close for ten days during each phase. For pharmacy hours, see below. Doggie Style at 20 Airport Sq. North Wales closed down the store today without telling employees and customers. Employees came to the store to find everything packed up and gone. A lot of dogs have been hurt and abused by this company.   more ›
