Another business bites the dust at Towamencin Shopping Village.
Another one bites the dust at Towamencin Shopping Village. Chinese restaurant Eastern Dragon is closing June 17, per a report on Chowhound.com. Dollar Tree recently moved out from Towamencin Shopping Village to Lansdale. Via Marconi Pizza Pub is moving soon to Hatfield Pointe in Hatfield Township. Blockbuster went bankrupt, closed, and now a Verizon store opened in its place. Both anchor stores—Genuardi’s and Sears Hardware—left years ago. Eastern Dragon’s Montgomery Township store near Costco remains in operation. There are no development plans filed with Towamencin Township for the shopping center.

North Penn School District is closing all district buildings at 6 p.m. today, due to the forecasted winter weather. All buildings will remain closed until 1 p.m. Saturday. The district announced that all school and community activities scheduled between 6 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday will not be held and may be rescheduled. The Friendly’s at Airport Square Shopping Center on Route 309 in Montgomeryville has closed its doors for good Sunday afternoon, making way for Bonefish Grill to open at the location in the next few months. Mike Goldberg of The Reporter writes that a work crew was hauling out kitchen equipment, booths and more to a moving truck. The franchise owner, Jeff Blum, of AKZ Delaware Valley Hospitality Inc., told Goldberg the owner of the property — Gateway DC Properties Inc., under Metro Commercial of Mount Laurel, NJ — opted not to renew the lease. Blum operates 11 other Friendly’s restaurants, including one in Ft. Washington, according to the article. Blum was also the franchisee of the Friendly’s that closed earlier this year in Hatfield …

Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012 Update Supervisors Monday night unanimously approved the intermunicipal liquor license transfer for Bonefish Grill, which is poised to open at the current Friendly's location at Airport Square Shopping Center. The liquor license will be transferred from the now closed Solaris Grille, which was located at 2665 Skippack Pike in Worcester, according to township documents. The closest licensed establishment is Romano's Macaroni Grill, located 300 feet away, according to township documents. Documents also states that an inactive liquor license exists under Habib Troudi of Ristorante Castello Inc., of 1200 Welsh Road, Montgomery Township. Jet Plastica, a plastics manufacturer that dates its roots back to 1947, will close for good by the summer. About 363 people will be out of a job, according to a Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry WARN notice. Jet Plastica is located at 1100 Schwab Road in Hatfield Township. The company began as two separate entities. According to www.Jetplastica.com, Plastica Company Inc., was founded in North Wales in 1947 and manufactured plastic spoons, forks and knives. Jet Container Corporation was founded in Lowell, MA in 1962 and manufactured plastic cups. Plastica purchased Jet Container in 1982 and moved to Hatfield. The Archdiocese approved the name of the new combined school Monday
St. Rose of Lima and St. Stanislaus Parish Schools will be known as Mater Dei Catholic School, beginning July 1, 2012 on the grounds of St. Stanislaus Parish School. The Archdiocese of Philadelphia approved the name on Monday, according to a press release from Tara Carlo at St. Stanislaus Parish School. The Latin term "Mater Dei" translates to "Mother of God" in English. The school will be under the patronage of Mary, Mother of Jesus. This is one chapter in the book of bankrupt retail agencies that will remain open—and it deals with the Chapter 11 filing by Borders Group Inc. and a local Borders branch. You have to sell a lot of egg rolls to pay the rent at that shopping center. Retail is a very tuff business, too many costs, not enough revenue. Eventually why bother, you need to have customers and demand. It is a simple concept.   more ›
