Early Education Professionals Plan to Meet in Franconia

A "winter update" will address additional stresses young children are facing in the wake of recent violent school attacks.

With the violence of Sandy Hook Elementary School still fresh in the minds of parents and educators, the need to talk to young children about violence is evergrowing. Bucks and Montgomery county educators will soon have a chance to learn how to best handle what can be a very difficult discussion to have. The Montgomery County Cooperative Extension of Penn State will host a 2013 Winter Update for Early Education professionals. The six-hour conference will be held at the Franconia Heritage Restaurant, Banquet and Conference Center, 508 Harleysville Pike, Telford. Among the topics for discussion will be: Educators will receive credits for attending. "All participants will receive six training credit hours from PQAS certified instructors," …

An E3 2011 Retrospective

This past week hosted the biggest industry event of the year. Here are some of the high and low points of this year's expo

Fans of video gaming the world over are acutely familiar with the Electronic Entertainment Expo, affectionately known as E3. It is the industry trade show of the year. It's the event that the biggest names in video gaming save their biggest secrets for, or at least try to. The entire expo is a week-long display of major upcoming gaming hardware and software releases, but the real attractions are the developer conferences, where the real news is let out. Last year's conferences announced hardware such as the Playstation Move and Microsoft Kinect motion controllers, as well as the recently-released Nintendo 3DS handheld system. North Penn, LC Sports Week in Review

Maidens' lacrosse keep their record strong at 14-1, and Crusaders baseball lost to Neumann-Goretti

It was another big week for the girls' lacrosse team at North Penn. The Maidens raised their record to 14-1 as they outlasted Souderton, 15-11.  North Penn is also 9-0 in conference play.  The Maidens picked up their 13th win earlier in the week as they rolled past Central Bucks South, 20-3.  Rachel Shaw scored five times in the victory. In boys' lacrosse, North Penn suffered a hard-fought, 11-8 defeat at the hands of Pennridge.  Chris Anton scored four goals in the loss for North Penn.  The boys' volleyball team at North Penn is now 9-2.  The Knights defeated Central Bucks West, 3-1.  Chris Davidson led the way with 17 kills. School Sports Week in Review

A look back on the wins and losses in North Penn and Lansdale Catholic sports

The North Penn softball team keeps finding different ways to win. After picking up 6-0 victory over Souderton to start the week, the Maidens went to extra innings before beating Hatboro-Horsham in eight innings, 2-1. When the Maidens faced Ridley in non-league action on Thursday, it took a suicide squeeze to end a 10-inning marathon.  North Penn took home a 3-2 win as Michelle Rauch laid down the squeeze bunt in the extra frame. The North Penn baseball team is now 6-2 after splitting a pair of games this week.  North Penn downed Souderton, 3-1, before losing to Central Bucks South, 8-3.  The Knights are now 6-2 overall and 5-2 in conference play. The North Penn Girls Lacrosse team continues to impress.  The Maidens picked up two victories …

North Penn boys hoops locked in tight conference battle

The key is keeping the team focused, Coach Ron Hassler said

     Baseball has the dog days of August.  The boys basketball team at North Penn has its dog days in January.      There is excitement when the season opens in December.  There is also the thrill of the playoffs at the end of February and the early part of March.  For Knights coach Ron Hassler, the key is keeping his team focused in January as the Knights look to keep pace in what is shaping up to be a tight conference race.      “This is the time of the year that we call the dog days,” said Hassler.  “It’s where some teams separate themselves from others.  I would think over the next two weeks we’ll have a better idea of who is in a real position to make a run at the title.”      The Knights are one of three teams batting for the top …
