Get Real

What Pre-Foreclosure Means

Lisa Loper of the Scott Loper Team explains a frequently misunderstood term in the real estate market.

We frequently have buyers asking us about pre-foreclosure homes that they found on the internet.  There are many sites that will give consumers this type of information.  Most of these homes are not listed for sale, but some buyers want to know if they can still see the property with the possibility of buying it. Pre-foreclosure simply means that a homeowner has fallen behind on their mortgage payments.  And while a foreclosure may eventually happen, at the current time, the home is still rightfully owned by the mortgagor (i.e. homeowner).  It does NOT mean that the home is available for sale.  In fact, that home may never be available for sale. In most cases, a homeowner does NOT want to sell OR lose their home to a foreclosure.  The …

Commercial Filmed in Lansdale on Thursday

Shadowbox Pictures produced a commercial for NetSpend, with filming over two days in Lansdale, Lafayette Hill and Conshohocken

Commuters and pedestrians were in awe Thursday morning at the film production going on on West Main Street in front of the vacant location of the former Lansdale News Agency and One Snip At a Time salon. It was all part of a production for a 60-second commercial for NetSpend by ShadowBox Pictures, according to producer and Montgomery Township resident Larry Buckley. ShadowBox Pictures is based in Yardley. "I get my haircut next door," said Buckley. "I saw the space next door and said it could work with what I wanted." The former Lansdale News Agency and Ah's Garage location was transformed overnight into "M-Star Check Cashing," to go along with client NetSpend's commercial. NetSpend offers prepaid debit cards and financial services. …

Romney Bus Pulls into MontCo for Nomination Watch Party

GOP volunteers and supporters gathered in a Conshohocken office to watch Romney accept the party's nomination at the Republican National Convention Thursday night.

Drivers on Ridge Pike in Conshohocken likely did a few double takes Thursday evening, as they drove past a big, shiny Romney campaign bus in the parking lot of the Plymouth Square Shopping Center. The bus, nicknamed "Reagan" by campaign staff of Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, is one of three tour buses used nationwide by the campaign. However, this time it wasn't carrying Romney or running mate Paul Ryan, who were a thousand miles away at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., but acting as a main attraction for a watch party organized by high-level Pennsylvania staff. "We did an in-state bus tour this week, starting in Erie and traveling down to Pittsburgh, Gettysburg and Villanova," said Billy Pitman, …

Fallen Conshohocken Police Officer Honored in Ceremony [VIDEO]

Ninety-five years later, Officer Eugene Lucas was honored after being killed in the line of duty on his second day on the job

When Officer Eugene "Chic" Lucas climbed the steps of an apartment building at the corner of Fayette and Elm Streets in Conshohocken to serve an arrest warrant 95 years ago, there was no way he could have known those moments would be among his last. Lucas, 49, along with Officer Cliff Campbell, swung open the door of a third-floor apartment belonging to "Black Mike," a man wanted for Desertion and Intent to Kill, and found him sitting at a table eating his dinner. Lucas ordered Black Mike to put his hands in the air, but the criminal instead reached for his gun and fired three shots at the officers, one of which struck Lucas in the neck. The wounded officer managed to make it down the street to a doctor's office, but eventually succumbed …

Puppy Bites Owner, SPCA to Put Dog Down

A Lansdale woman was attacked in her kitchen by her recently-adopted nine-month-old puppy

The Montgomery County SPCA will soon euthanize a nine-month-old puppy that attacked its owner in her kitchen last Friday evening on the 400 block of W. Mt. Vernon St. in Lansdale. Donna Groff was bitten at least a dozen times on the arm, police said. Police responded to the home at around 5:45 p.m., and upon arrival, heard Groff screaming inside her home. Urban Terrorists Crippled by Grand Jury

Montco DA announces the arrest of 10 members of the Norristown-based "Gangsta Killer Bloods."

On Wednesday morning, Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Ferman announced the arrest of 10 alleged members of the "Gangsta Killer Bloods," including the alleged leader of the gang, 23-year-old Augustus Anthony Simmons, of Brooklyn, NY. The arrests cap off six months of work by a Montgomery County investigative grand jury, who traced the alleged criminal enterprise back to Simmons' arrival in Norristown in July of 2010. "When Simmons came in last summer, his goal was to organize criminals on the streets behind him," said Ferman. "He came down with the purpose of establishing and solidifying a Blood set in Montgomery County." A large scale investigation was launched on Dec. 15 2010, after a pair of fire-bombings on Stanbridge Street. …

You're Welcome, Earth: Patch Editors Cleanup Montco Trail on Give 5 Day

For the Patch and Aol Give 5 Day, eight Patchers from Montgomery County volunteered and cleaned up nearly a ton of trash from the Cross County Trail.

What does it say about us as a people in this ecosystem when nearly a ton of trash is collected from either side of a two-mile trail? It says there’s a whole hell of a lot more to go. For the volunteer Give 5 program of Patch and Aol, seven local editors of Patch sites of Eastern Pennsylvania One-Regional One spent seven hours Thursday discarding trash from the Cross County Trail. In the end, we collected 34 bags of trash, each weighing about 50 pounds. That is 1,700 pounds—more than three-quarters of a ton—of trash. In seven hours. In just two miles. “I think it is really impressive that our company, Aol, gives us the work hours to do volunteering like this,” said Melissa Treacy, regional editor for Montgomery County Patch sites. “It is …
