Lansdale Municipal Complex Renovations Could Break Ground in Fall 2013

The project has an estimated completion date of March 6, 2016. Architectural firm Spiezle Architects would be tasked to design two options for the renovation of the municipal complex.

If voted on by a majority of Lansdale Borough Council tonight, Spiezle Architects could be tasked to design two options for a combined municipal complex housing Lansdale Police Department and Lansdale Borough Hall administration. One option would demolish the police station and preserve the facades of borough hall, albeit with renovations and incorporation into a new building. A second option would demolish both structures, keeping portions of the borough hall façade “honoring the history of the site,” according to a contract. The anticipated construction start date, per the contract, is late Fall 2013 or early Spring 2014. The completion date would be anticipated before March 6, 2016, according to the contract. I would have thought the documentation would have been available from a previous owner. Could then have been obtained via alternate methods? If not, the actual cost of acquisition is much higher than originally stated. That's like negotiating for the purchase of a home, taking title to the home ... THEN obtaining a home inspection. OMG ... why do we continue to do things backwards?   more ›

Council OKs $40K Business Improvement Contract

Delta Development Group, who is assessing the borough's parking, will develop a plan for a Business Improvement District. Council voted 7-2 to approve the contract

The 311 W. Main Task Force is still in the early stages of finding the purpose – and the funding – of the former arts center on Main Street. North Star Destination Strategies is still in the early stages of finding the identity and brand of Lansdale Borough. BPG Properties Ltd. is still in the preliminary stages of designing a retail Mecca and parking garage at Madison Parking Lot. With all that on their plate, borough council found room to approve this month a $40,000 contract with Delta Development Group to design and assess a Business Improvement District in downtown Lansdale. If Delta Development Group sounds familiar, that’s because it is the group contracted by the Lansdale Parking Authority to develop a parking improvement plan in …

Human Resources Consultation Underway in Lansdale Borough

Council awarded a $79,000 contract to N.J. Hess Associates for development of a human resources system.

Lansdale Borough recently awarded a $79,000 contract to N.J. Hess Associates, a human resources consultant based in Hummelstown, PA, to develop a human resources department in the borough. Borough Manager Timi Kirchner told council at a meeting last month that it is unknown at this time whether the borough would hire a dedicated human resources director. Kirchner told councilman Rich DiGregorio that a committee of borough employees, department heads and staff reviewed the initial Request for Proposal. She said the committee used a grading sheet to verify finalists. The final two were subjected to a reference check, and N.J. Hess Associates was the one with the most experience with municipal work. DiGregorio asked if the borough labor …

Each officer will receive 3.5 percent wage increases the first two years and 3 percent increases in the last two years. The contract agreements were completed without arbitration

The Lansdale Borough Police Benevolent Association and the Allied Workers Union have come to four-year agreements on their respective contracts with the borough. Last week, borough councilman Dan Dunigan announced each contract agreement is effective Jan. 1, 2011, to Dec. 31, 2014.   “(The police contract ratification) was done so without arbitration,” Dunigan said, adding it had an exceptional vote of support from the police. “We avoided the pitfalls of the past of creating an adversarial relationship,” Dunigan said. “It was mutual. We do all we can in our power to support our police force.” For the first two years, borough police officers will each receive a 3.5 percent wage increase this year and next year, and a 3 percent increase Jan…
