A drug ring that included Montgomery County has recently been on trial in a major wire-tapping case.
He took the stand as a witness for the prosecution, but it was the defense that really got him to talk. An unnamed ringleader of a major drug ring that reached parts of Montgomery, Bucks, Chester and Philadelphia counties was the topic of discussion in Judge Gary S. Silow’s courtroom Friday, as more than 24 men and women face charges in the ring, which was caught via wire-tapping by local authorities, reports the Times Herald. The witness admitted on the stand, when questioned by the defense, that he did not know at least one of the men named as part of a drug trafficking organization. Basement dweller William Keith Kane, 23, had the sole felony charge dismissed at a preliminary hearing in Lansdale District Court Thursday. Kane allegedly assaulted and threatened to kill his landlord with a knife and tire iron.
Franklin Street basement tenant William Keith Kane, 23, of Lansdale, will not face a felony charge of aggravated assault in Montgomery County court in May for allegedly assaulting and threatening his landlord with a knife and tire iron. The charge was dismissed at a preliminary hearing Thursday morning in Lansdale District Court. All other charges against Kane were held by District Judge Harold Borek: misdemeanor possessing an instrument of crime, three counts of misdemeanor simple assault, misdemeanor reckless endangerment and summary harassment. Another player in the Montgomery County methamphetamine trafficking operation has been sentenced in Montgomery County court Monday. Jeffrey M. Penna, 42, of the 1200 block of Cabin Road, Hatfield, was sentenced to seven years’ probation for pleading guilty to numerous felony counts of possession with intent to distribute meth between December 2011 and March 2012, according to Carl Hessler Jr. of Journal Register. Penna’s brother, David Penna, 36, of the 1800 block of Valley Forge Road, Towamencin, already pleaded guilty to his involvement in the methamphetamine ring and received four years’ probation. A palm print found on a sliding door of a burglarized Montgomery Township home was all investigators needed to lead them to Raymond Diaz, 23, of Philadelphia. Diaz, of the 4700 block of Melrose Street, was given a nine- to 23-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to felony burglary of a home on the 100 block of Hopkins Court, according to Peg Gibbons of The Intelligencer. The burglary occurred on July 23, 2012, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., according to court records. Montgomery Township Police matched a palm print from the home to Diaz’s palm print, according to the article. Ian Jared Crotzer, 30, of the 100 block of Monroe Drive, Towamencin Condominiums, allegedly filed a false claim that his vehicle was stolen. James Carr Heath Jr., 43, of the 1300 block of Allentown Road, heads to county arraignment Jan. 30 at 9:30 a.m. facing a misdemeanor charge of simple assault and a misdemeanor charge of false imprisonment, as well as a summary harassment charge, according to court records.
