Two Lansdale Homes Targets of Nigerian Housing Scam on Craigslist

Lansdale Police urge residents to be aware of a Craigslist scam, in which interested renters are asked to send money to Lagos, Nigeria

A home on the 900 block of Clay Avenue and another home on the 600 block of Vermont Avenue were being used in what Lansdale Police call a Nigerian housing scam. On Feb. 12, police received information about the two homes being used in the scam, in which a subject identifying themselves as a man named "Pastor Joseph Saldutti" offers to rent the two properties out at an attractive and undervalued cost, police said. The postings were placed on Craigslist, police said. In an investigation, which involved an exchange of emails, police discovered the subject identified as Saldutti asked that a deposit be sent to Lagos, Nigeria via Western Union moneygram, police said. Hatfield Man Accused of Killing Male Escort in Colorado

A Hatfield man and U.S. Army veteran has been arrested for allegedly beating an escort to death in 2011 in Grand Junction, CO, whom authorities said he met on Craigslist for sex. Billy Joe Delacey, 36, formerly of Fruita, CO, was arrested Friday at his Whitemarsh Lane, Hatfield home, according to The Daily Sentinel in Grand Junction, CO. According to the article, Mesa County, CO Chief District Judge David Bottger signed off on a grand jury indictment this week. SOPA and PIPA Could Make Internet DOA

What is SOPA and PIPA? And why are so many websites doing a blackout today?

Good luck using Wikipedia or Craigslist today, as they have been blacked out in protest of the Protect Intellectual Property Act and Stop Online Piracy Act. You can find a PDF of the act in our photo gallery. Google, Mozilla, Wired and Reddit have also censored their sites in protest of the acts. According to an article on the L.A. Times, lawmakers want the acts passed in order to protect the property rights of music, movie and TV studios. This means giving the power to censor the Internet to the entertainment industry. Copyright holders and the U.S. Department of Justice can seek court orders against websites accused of enabling or facilitating copyright infringement. POLICE: Swindlers Scam Residents

One female resident was scammed out of money, and a second outsmarted the scammer and hung up the phone

Two residents of Lansdale Borough were subjected to fraud cases on the same day. Police said on March 25, at 2:12 p.m., they received a report of a possible Craigslist fraud. The 25-year-olf female of the 300 block of Susquehanna Avenue, applied for what she thought was a legitimate job advertised on Craigslist, police said. The job was for a bookkeeper at 15 to 20 hours a week at $400 per week. The victim said the person that gave her the job was from the United Kingdom and all communication was done through email, police said. Police said the victim was instructed to deposit a cashier's check for $3,200, which was mailed to her, into her own personal bank account, keep $400 for herself as a payment and wire the rest via Western Union to …
