Lansdale Borough is seeking applicants locally and nationally for its holistic redesign of www.lansdale.org. Requests for Proposals are due April 19 to Lansdale Borough at 1 Vine St.
Local and national website designers will have a chance, starting Friday through April 19, to submit proposals for the desperate facelift of Lansdale Borough's online brand. "Something had to be done about it," said Councilman and Communication Commission Chair Denton Burnell at Wednesday night's council session. "We're going to take a holistic approach. It's not simply about making the website look better; it's really in how we organize the content that's there, how to ... extend and adapt and improve the site as we grow as a borough." Borough Manager Timi Kirchner announced Wednesday night that a Request for Proposals (RFP) will be finalized on Friday, opening up bids from interested firms for the next 30 days. "A municipality's website …

Projects aimed at making the city more pedestrian friendly are postponed while the borough seeks clarification
The Lansdale Borough Public Works Committee met Wednesday night to discuss projects in varying stages throughout the community. At the forefront of the committee’s agenda were the curb and sidewalk ordinance, as well as the PCTI grant for Wood and Vine Streets. Both aim to make Lansdale more favorable for pedestrians. Discrepancies over what constitutes “good” and “bad” conditions have brought the curb and sidewalk ordinance to a temporary standstill while officials clarify the parameters set forth by the federal government. “There really isn’t enough clarity to protect both the borough and residents at the moment. We are trying to codify what is considered favorable and unfavorable since regulations are constantly changing,” said …

Trees will be planted in 2013 along Broad Street as part of Lansdale's streetscape
Due to an early spring, 55 street trees will wait until 2013 to be planted on Broad Street. Public Works Committee Chairman Denton Burnell reported on a "glaring, outstanding" punchlist item during the committee report Wednesday at the Lansdale council work session. Burnell said Mother Nature was to blame for delaying the streetscape project. "While spring typically comes around in late March, an accelerated spring coupled with an incredibly warm winter have caused the last set of trees designated for planting to bloom early and ahead of season, hence they cannot be planted in 2012," Burnell said. The best course of action for the health and resilience of the trees, he said, is to plant them in Spring 2013 when conditions are at their peak…

Jack Hansen taking over as chair of Department of Community Development, Denton Burnell taking reins as chair of Public Works Committee
The announcement of new Lansdale Borough committee assignments last week revealed some new leadership under the 2012 council. Council President Matt West said the committee assignments were finalized two weeks ago, but ran through each one to "memorialize" the appointments. Dan Dunigan will remain as chair of the Administration and Finance Committee. Joining him will be council vice president Paul Clemente and West. There is no change to assignments from 2011. The Parks and Recreation Committee will be chaired again by Mary Fuller. Joining her are new councilman Steve Malagari and councilman Rich DiGregorio. Malagari and DiGregorio replace resigning councilwoman Anne Scheuring and councilman Mike Sobel, respectively. Public Works Committee…

Anne Scheuring says her parting words to a packed meeting room
Democrats Denton Burnell and Steve Malagari have begun their four-year tenure as Lansdale Borough councilmen. Both men won the General Election. Burnell replaces Mike Riccio in Ward 3, and Malagari replaces resigning councilwoman Anne Scheuring in Ward 1. Mayor Andy Szekely swore both councilmen in Tuesday at the borough reorganization meeting, with their wives by their sides. Szekely also swore in re-elected Ward 2 councilmen Jack Hansen and Rich DiGregorio. New Democrat tax collector Jim Hanratty was also sworn in Tuesday. “I’m just ready to do more hard work and keep the town on the right track,” said Malagari. “We have a lot more work ahead of us.” At the top of Malagari’s list are projects related to economic development, including …

Former Shiloh Lodge Worshipful Master Joe McQuillin provided a recent town hall session with a bit of backstory on the sale of the former Masonic Temple to Lansdale Borough
Former Shiloh Lodge F. & A.M. No. 588 Worshipful Master Joe McQuillin, owner of McQuillin Studio in Lansdale, provided a backstory on 311 W. Main Street at the Lansdale town hall session last month – a tale of miscommunication, poor decisions, broken promises and a transaction worth $450,000. Unofficial tallies show Burnell with 673 votes over Riccio's 346
Denton Burnell has unofficially usurped incumbent Republican Mike Riccio on Lansdale Borough Council. Unofficial numbers show Burnell with 673 votes in Ward Three over Ricccio's 346 votes. "I feel great. I feel relaxed. I feel happy with the outcome," Burnell said. "I'm looking forward to getting started in January." Burnell said he worked harder than his opponent in the campaign. "I was out there knocking on doors, doing all those things to win, and it certainly helped," he said. "That’s what I'm going to take away from it." Riccio said he has seceded the election to Denton. "I had the privilege of running against my good friend Drew Stockmal four years ago, and Drew is doing fantastic things for Lansdale. Denton will do the same," he …
We asked council candidates the same four questions, and the tax collector candidates the same three questions on the eve of the election
When you go out to vote today in Lansdale Borough, you will see these names on the ballot. Depending on which ward you live in, you will only care about a few of these names. The tax collector position, however, is borough-wide. The candidates for borough council were asked the same four questions: What needs to change in Lansdale? What are the three issues you'd like to solve as councilperson? Why did you choose to live in Lansdale? What are your feelings on the eve of the election? The two candidates for tax collector were asked similar questions: Why do you want to run for tax collector? What issues would you like to see changed in your position? What are your feelings on the eve of the election? Republican Nancy Frei vs. Democrat …

GreenDay67 -- appreciate your complement. Allow me to respond to your other comment -- as you likely know, I disagree with the sentiment. However large the construction project may end up being -- $6 million, $8 million, or $10 million -- that work WILL BE BID like every other infrastructure project has to be. Still, it seems a few folks wanted potential architects to respond with design …   more ›
