Mickey Mouse, Meet Darth Vader

Disney is getting things moving on three new "Star Wars" movies, following its $4 billion purchase of LucasFilm

Development news of three new "Star Wars" films — all telling the continuing tale of what happened after "Jedi" — is moving faster than the Millennium Falcon at the Kessel Run. It was announced last week that Walt Disney Co. purchased LucasFilm for $4 billion, and hence, rules the "Star Wars," well, empire. Now, news comes out of Hollywood Tuesday morning that "X-Men: First Class" and "Kick-Ass" director Matthew Vaughn could helm the first new episode. He would then join the likes of science fiction mogul George Lucas, the late Irvin Kerschner, and Richard Marquand. The deal could be the end of "Clone Wars" on the Cartoon Network, which is owned by Time Warner (which also owns DC Comics and, hence, the "Batman" franchise). Just please — no…

Allebach Leaving Manna After 12 Years

The Manna on Main Street director will be moving on to work with Sitecats Web Development

When Tom Allebach gives up the reins at Manna on Main Street Jan. 27, he is not giving up nearly 13 years of falling in love with the North Penn community and the 700-plus households the nonprofit deals with on a daily basis. He will continue to be a supporter of Manna, and a supporter of its mission to help the less fortunate and needy clientele in the North Penn School District area. “I’m going to miss interacting with all the people here. The clients and their families are really great,” he said. “We have wonderful volunteers and I really love our staff and board.” “It’s the people that I’m going to miss,” he said. “It’s bittersweet, but more sweet than anything.” Manna is poised to move its headquarters from St. John's United Church of…

Montgomery Township Budget for First Quarter Meeting Expectations

Township expenses are below budget, and business taxes are above where they were this time last year.

The Montgomery Township budget for the first quarter of 2011 is on the right track, following a report Monday night by finance director Shannon Drosnock. Township expenses are reporting below budget, and business privilege and mercantile taxes are above those of the first quarter of 2010. Drosnock said the largest months for revenue were March and April, in which the township received 40 percent of its general fund revenues. “March 15 is our business tax deadline, April 15 is the final local taxes, earned income taxes, done by Berkheimer, and on April 30, it’s the end of the discount period for any of the real estate taxes,” Drosnock said. “That’s what contributes to March and April being 40 percent of the general fund revenues.” Revenues …

Human Resources Consultation Underway in Lansdale Borough

Council awarded a $79,000 contract to N.J. Hess Associates for development of a human resources system.

Lansdale Borough recently awarded a $79,000 contract to N.J. Hess Associates, a human resources consultant based in Hummelstown, PA, to develop a human resources department in the borough. Borough Manager Timi Kirchner told council at a meeting last month that it is unknown at this time whether the borough would hire a dedicated human resources director. Kirchner told councilman Rich DiGregorio that a committee of borough employees, department heads and staff reviewed the initial Request for Proposal. She said the committee used a grading sheet to verify finalists. The final two were subjected to a reference check, and N.J. Hess Associates was the one with the most experience with municipal work. DiGregorio asked if the borough labor …
