North Penn PAL Fundraiser Saturday for Teen's Leukemia Fight

North Penn Police Activities League, Old Navy, Penndale Middle School, Pat's Pizza, Centennial Blueprint, County Electric, LAFS, North Penn YMCA, a Broad Street Bully, an NBA champ and more come together for Matthew Knoebel, 13, on Saturday.

North Penn Police Activities League Executive Director Greg O'Brien was heading out the door to meet other volunteers at Penndale Middle School shortly before 6 p.m. Friday when he answered our call. O'Brien and others were meeting Friday to set up for Saturday's fundraiser for Lansdale teen Matthew Knoebel, who is fighting leukemia. "There's a lot of stuff going on," he said. "It's not the kind of thing where there is nothing to look at, nothing to see. There will be a constant flow of activity, with officers mingling with 50/50 tickets, a couple of sports guys, fashion shows and basketball games." That about summed up the highlights of tomorrow's fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Penndale Middle School in Lansdale.  North Penn PAL has…

North Penn PAL Nears April 27 Fundraiser Spectacular

The nonprofit youth and teen police activities league is holding a fundraiser for the family of Matthew Knoebel, 13, of Lansdale, who is battling leukemia. The event is at Penndale Middle School.

With 23 days to go, more activity suggestions and entertaiment ideas for an April 27 fundraiser kept stacking up among the volunteers and board members of North Penn Police Activities League Wednesday afternoon inside the meeting room at Towamencin Township Hall. The ideas and offers kept coming for the 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. event at Penndale Middle School: A local rock band of North Penn students expressed interest in playing the event, a business offered to donate a canopy for the food area, and so on. While the charity is admirable, the event simply has no more room for even more activities. The fundraiser will benefit 13-year-old leukemia fighter Matthew Knoebel, of Lansdale. It also takes place, naturally, at Knoebel's current school. The…

The Greater North Penn Area Nutrition Coalition collected donations of fruits and vegetables from the public Saturday at Shop Rite in Hatfield Township

The public was giving the gift of good health to area food pantries Saturday during the Greater North Penn Area Nutrition Coalition's Fresh Food Drive at Shop Rite in Hatfield Township. "It will get busier as we go," said Carol Doyle, of Keystone Opportunity Center in Souderton. "It takes a little explaining of what we're doing and why there's a need for it." The coalition holds a fresh fruit drive to collect fruits and vegetables, like potatoes, bananas, broccoli, pears, grapefruits, carrots and more, twice a year. All items collected are evenly distributed to the participating food pantries in the region: Bethlehem Baptist Church in Blue Bell, Emmanuel E.C. Penndale Donates 2,929 Cans to Manna on Main

The math classes at the Lansdale middle school know that Food + Donations = Happiness

Food + Donating = Happiness. This was one equation that 26 Penndale Middle Schoolers will remember for life, following their delivery of more than 2,900 canned goods to Manna on Main Street Friday morning. "Throughout the school, all math classes did a canned food drive," said Sara Heil, Penndale eighth grade math teacher. "We made bar graphs for each of the classes and each student filled in one box per can, to see which class could bring in the most. The winning class is the second-period class. They brought in 234 cans. My five classes overall brought in 825 cans. Overall, for all three grades, they brought in 2,929 cans. We filled 67 boxes and brought them over in four vehicles." Heil said it started 11 years ago with just her math …

New Patrol Bike Donated to Lansdale Police

Lansdale Area Fundraising Society also donated money to the department's D.A.R.E. program on Saturday. Donations came from proceeds of LAFS-sponsored events, such as the Lansdale Beer Tasting Festival.

Lansdale Police Department's bike patrol will have more officers getting around town to fight crimes, thanks to the Lansdale Area Fundraising Society. On Saturday afternoon, LAFS donated a new $1,350 bicycle to the department, along with a $930 donation to its D.A.R.E. program. The check will be used to pay for the bike, purchased at Scooter's Bike Shop in Souderton. The donations were made possible from proceeds garnered at various LAFS-sponsored events and programs, like the Lansdale Beer Tasting Festival and the recent calendar sale featuring photographs of Lansdale landmarks and its people. The idea to donate a new bicycle to the police department came from a discussion Councilman Steve Malagari had with officers at last year's …

I would have to agree with you Brett. I would have thought that since it's was Lansdale Area Fundraising Society that donated the bike to the Lansdale P.D. I would have thought the bike would be purchased from a Lansdale bike shop. Don't get me wrong, I think they do a great job LAFS, but still would have been nice that a local borough bike shop would have received the business.   more ›
