Borough Manager Timi Kirchner and Councilwoman Mary Fuller answered questions at an Economic Development Committee/Communication Commission regarding the status quo of the proposed BID, and its contract with Delta Development.
Development of a Business Improvement District in Lansdale, directed via a steering committee, is "on hold" because the borough is doing a lot at present. In her answer to a question posed to the Economic Development Committee/Communication Commission last week by Democratic council candidate Liz Troy, Borough Manager Timi Kirchner said the BID steering committee had met "once or twice" with contracted firm Delta Development. In February 2012, Delta Development was contracted $43,000 to develop a Business Improvement District. However, at the meeting, Troy incorrectly referred to the amount being $50,000. "The project is on hold right now," Kirchner said, "because we had so many other projects moving forward. We will get back to that …

Economic Development Committee Chairwoman Mary Fuller updated her committee and the Communication Commission last week on the recent branding success at a community marketing event.
Lansdale was the talk of the towns at an April 5 Delaware Valley Smart Growth Alliance Development Committee Chairwoman Mary Fuller at last week's joint EDC and Communication Commission meeting. "Investing in the Delaware Valley's Downtown" also fulfilled Lansdale Borough in another way—it was one of the many tenets outlined in the borough's branding initiative. Fuller said the event attracted at lot of developers, architects and engineers in other municipalities. "We made a lot of good contacts," said Fuller. Community Development Director John Ernst was quick to point out that another major benefit of the event was "how obvious it was that whatever we are doing, we are doing it right." "We couldn't say enough about how busy we were," …

Lansdale Borough is seeking applicants locally and nationally for its holistic redesign of www.lansdale.org. Requests for Proposals are due April 19 to Lansdale Borough at 1 Vine St.
Local and national website designers will have a chance, starting Friday through April 19, to submit proposals for the desperate facelift of Lansdale Borough's online brand. "Something had to be done about it," said Councilman and Communication Commission Chair Denton Burnell at Wednesday night's council session. "We're going to take a holistic approach. It's not simply about making the website look better; it's really in how we organize the content that's there, how to ... extend and adapt and improve the site as we grow as a borough." Borough Manager Timi Kirchner announced Wednesday night that a Request for Proposals (RFP) will be finalized on Friday, opening up bids from interested firms for the next 30 days. "A municipality's website …

A website redesign is on the horizon in Lansdale Borough, as two commissions implement the branding touchpoints from the recent brand narrative and platform. Local designers, and national designers, can submit a Request for Proposal
Lansdale Borough knows its website stinks. It's no surprise then — now that the 100-plus-page branding narrative and platform from North Star Destination Strategies is in the hands of borough council and committeemembers — that a facelift of www.lansdale.org is a major branding touchpoint to be implemented ASAP. "It's not easy," said Communication Commission Chairman Denton Burnell Monday night at the joint session with the borough Economic Development Committee, "but we absolutely have to tackle it now 100 percent. We have to throw out the old and start over." Suggestions were made at the final presentation on the branding initiative by North Star of what a website could look like. Even Burnell designed a mock-up of a revised website at …

The Lansdale Communications Commission chairman, the Economic Development Committee chairwoman and the Lansdale borough manager weigh in on the next steps in the branding initiative
With the branding package in effect in Lansdale Borough, various departments will begin incorporating parts of the brand narrative into their daily structure. For instance, the code enforcement department has begun using the logo as watermarks on interoffice memos. In the next couple of weeks, it will look at purchasing new clothing with the new logo, as other pieces of attire wear out. Few borough council members are still confused as to the branding initiative; it is not something to be approved by council — thereby restricting the borough to its logo, the "Life in Motion" tagline and various other aspects of the narrative. The brand is to be implemented via numerous recommendations by North Star Destination Strategies, and spearheaded …

Council President Matt West, Borough Manager Timi Kirchner, Communications Commission Chairman Denton Burnell and Economic Development Committee Chairwoman Mary Fuller respond to the harsh community response on the new branding package for Lansdale
Since North Star Destination Strategies' reviewed its $68,000 branding initiative with the Lansdale Borough Economic Development Committee and Communications Commission on Monday night, residents and non-residents alike have taken to Facebook and the water cooler to support or criticize the results. On Wednesday night, councilmembers and the borough manager responded to many of the criticisms they have been facing since Monday. "A few of you were there Monday night as the borough revealed our brand, and reading the articles, being there, reading many of the comments online, listening to folks around the neighborhood, I felt it necessary to talk about the brand tonight," said council President Matt West. West said the top question he has …

Klothen was appointed in 2009 to head the $105 million program.
According to Phillyburbs.com, Kenneth L. Klothen, director of economic development for Montgomery County is stepping down effective tomorrow. “The combined aspects of my life made it advisable for me to leave,” Klothen told Phillyburbs.com. Klothen was hired in 2009 to head up the seven-year, $105 million economic development program created by then commissioners James Matthews and Joe Hoeffel. According to Phillyburbs.com, Castor voted against the program saying the county couldn't afford the $5 million-a-year seed money called for in the first five years of the program. During last year's fiscal crisis, Klothen had volunteered to cut his annual salary in half (from $131,454 to $78,872) and work part time. Now Klothen is leaving to work …

The administration and finance committee revealed the potential borough human resources consultant, the code enforcement committee discussed sign permit fees and the parks and recreation department reviewed a proposal on a holiday tree event
Here is a rundown of recent Lansdale Borough committee reports Administration and Finance The committee is working on a running list of expenses for the general obligation bond, according to committee chair Dan Dunigan. There are items requested by the parks and recreation and electric committees that will come out of long-term investments. These include a $60,000 lawn mower and a $30,000 pickup truck, respectively. To outright buy the items at a total $90,000 would save money, since it would cost $118,000 total to lease the items, Dunigan said. The borough is looking into security of borough hall by purchasing additional cameras. Councilman Jack Hansen asked if there was any discussion on buying television cameras to televise borough …

And there's our $100,000 meaningless logo. Goggle "Life in Motion" and see what you get -- rehab spas, canes, yoga studios, chiropractors, etc. And what is the significance of the four bent bars? Designer whimsy? C'mon folks. How about "Family Friendly" and a more historically grounded logo. Find a war to help small business owners and you'll help Lansdale.   more ›
