Corbett: PA's Unemployed Can't Pass Drug Test

State's governor says some are unemployed because they've taken illegal drugs.

Pennsylvania's governor has a new explanation for high unemployment rates. He says many of the unemployed can't pass a simple drug test. In a recent radio talk show, Gov. Tom Corbett said that while some of the state's issue with unemployment is a result of training for the new century's jobs, another has to do with applicants' abilities to pass a drug test. "We can't find anybody that has passed a drug test in a while," Corbett told PAMatters.com that employers have explained to him. Corbett relayed this on its live show. The governor said it is a "serious problem." According to ThinkProgress.org, the "number of people working in Pennsylvania tumbled by about 14,000 in March, following a drop of 6,000 in February."

The world would be a better place if we drug tested welfare recipients and left workers (employed or otherwise) alone. Workers should only be drug/alcohol tested if they appear impaired at their job. Pre-employment screening should be illegal, and if you're dumb enough to show up for your interview drunk/high then you don't deserve the job anyway. Part-Time Help Wanted at Lansdale Library

The library is now hiring for a circulation desk attendant. Apply via email by April 30.

Lansdale Public Library wants to give you a job. The library at Vine Street and Susquehanna Avenue is seeking candidates for a part-time circulation desk attendant. The rate is $7.50 an hour for 15 to 20 hours a week, including some Saturdays. Interested candidates must be able to multitask and maintain a calm demeanor in a fast-paced library environment. Lansdale Employees Recognized for Anniversaries

Lansdale Borough Council has a tradition in recognizing employees for milestone anniversaries. That tradition was repeated Wednesday night.

Lansdale Borough Council President Matt West and Borough Manager Timi Kirchner Wednesday night recognized three borough employees for their milestone employments.
