Lansdale Founders Day Committee named Lansdale's fire marshal and the former chief of Fairmount Fire Company as its first award winner
On Saturday, a lifetime of doing what he loved has been officially recognized by the public. John P. "Jay" Daveler, Lansdale's current fire marshal and ex-chief of Fairmount Fire Co., was honored during the opening ceremonies of Founders Day. Daveler was given an engraved, glass plaque engraved with the following: For more than a half century of dedication to Lansdale and the North Penn Valley as a businessman, firefighter and community leader. Mr. Daveler's countless hours of volunteerism and exemplary wise counsel have greatly contributed to the betterment of his hometown A biography of Daveler was read by Lansdale Police Sgt. Jay Daveler, the fire marshal of Lansdale Borough, former Fairmount Fire Co. chief and owner of Nostalgic Collectibles and Davro Optical Systems, will be the first recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award at Founders Day
Lansdale son Jay Daveler, who served 44 years as chief at Fairmount Fire Co. and continues to serve as fire marshal, is being honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at Founders Day. Daveler found out about his award during a routine management meeting with borough Manager Timi Kirchner and Director of Community Development John Ernst over a cup of coffee at a local eatery. "I was given the assignment and I was thrilled to tell him," Kirchner said. "We had several things to discuss, as he's still the fire marshal. As we went through our business, I said, 'There's one more thing.' He looked at me and said, 'I don't do this very well. It shouldn't be me.' I said, 'Yes, it should.' After 44 years as chief of Fairmount Fire Co., borough fire marshal Jay Daveler has extinguished his tenure. On Wednesday, Mayor Andy Szekeley and council President Matt West honored Daveler with a proclamation and plaque. Szekely read from the proclamation, which touched upon Daveler's exemplary and superior volunteer service to Lansdale Borough as chief.
