Local Fresh Food Drive Bears Fruit

The Greater North Penn Area Nutrition Coalition collected donations of fruits and vegetables from the public Saturday at Shop Rite in Hatfield Township

The public was giving the gift of good health to area food pantries Saturday during the Greater North Penn Area Nutrition Coalition's Fresh Food Drive at Shop Rite in Hatfield Township. "It will get busier as we go," said Carol Doyle, of Keystone Opportunity Center in Souderton. "It takes a little explaining of what we're doing and why there's a need for it." The coalition holds a fresh fruit drive to collect fruits and vegetables, like potatoes, bananas, broccoli, pears, grapefruits, carrots and more, twice a year. All items collected are evenly distributed to the participating food pantries in the region: Bethlehem Baptist Church in Blue Bell, Emmanuel E.C. Costco Donates a Ton of Turkeys to Montco Police Food Drive

Employees of Costco donated 84 turkeys to Montgomery Township Police for the Montgomery County Law Enforcement Food Drive. The turkeys were then dropped off at the Salvation Army in Norristown for distribution

Employees of Costco Wholesale in Montgomery Township on Dec. 4 donated 84 turkeys, totaling 2,000 pounds or one ton, toward the Montgomery County Law Enforcement Food Drive. The turkeys were given to Officer Jim Matlack of Montgomery Township Police for donation to the food drive. Matlack, in turn, delivered the turkeys to Salvation Army in Norristown to be distributed to food banks in the county. The county Law Enforcement Food Drive runs to Dec. 20.  To donate, call the Norristown Salvation Army at 610-275-4183.
