Montco Mommy

A Mother's Wish for Her Children

Montco Mommy makes a record of her wish list for her children's futures.

I’ve seen them all over. Maybe it was Mother’s Day this last weekend. Maybe it is just the over-abundance of social media in my life. Whatever the reason, I’m sure you’ve seen them, too. From Lee Ann Womack’s “I Hope You Dance,” to Tina Fey’s “A Mother’s Prayer for Its Daughter” (from her Bossy Pants book), there are a wide variety of explanations, prayers, hopes, songs, poems and wish lists a mom has for her children. I often think, if something ever happened to me, whether I be hit by a bus tomorrow or die in my sleep of old age decades from now, I’d still like to be sure my children know how I feel, what I want for them, what I hope they become. My real wish is that I’m a communicative mom enough that they already know it. I would hope …

Success Defined at 311 W. Main Task Force

Residents, business owners and government heads discuss, in small groups, their visions and outcomes of a renovated arts center

A gathering of some 50 diverse citizens, residents, business owners, borough employees and elected politicians resulted in shared wants for the future of 311 W. Main Street.  They want a movie theater, showing indie and classic films. They want dance recitals and theater performances. They want a self-sustaining asset, with programming seven days a week, all day, for all ages.  They want touring musicians and an intimate standing-room-only concert stage. They want people to stop, park, shop and come back. They want Ambler and Doylestown to come there for entertainment. Heck, they want a parking problem. Lynette Turner, of AMS Planning and Research, led a group activity Tuesday night during the 311 W. Main Task Force meeting. In small …

Sellersville Blinded By Science

Thomas Dolby and his Time Machine appeared at the theater Wednesday

In 1,000 years, whoever is on this Earth will know about Thomas Dolby. The innovative 1980s New Wave singer appeared at Sellersville Theater Wednesday as part of his Time Capsule Tour 2012. Some three decades later, Dolby continues to impress his fans and the public alike with creativity. What caught the eye of fans and passersby was the chrome and brass-plated, Victorian steampunk trailer outside the theater. This was the Time Capsule. Inside the capsule are handcrafted leather and wood fittings, gears and gauges, microphones and video screens and plaques asking questions like "What Will Life Be Like in the Year 2112?" "What Music From Today Should be Remembered 1,000 Years From Now?" and "What Do You Want Your Great Grandchildren to Know…

Gail's Corner

Vacancies Adding Up at Ralph's Corner

Leasing agent Metro Commercial may break up former Super Fresh site into smaller spaces to attract businesses.

Area residents are anxious to know what, if any, progress is being made in leasing the vacancies at the Ralph’s Corner Shopping Center.  Adjusting to new shopping locales and longer drives to pick up groceries, even for a quick stop to buy a gallon of milk, have worn thin on shoppers. Ralph’s Corner Shopping Center began when Ralph’s Supermarket moved from its old location on Main Street, which is presently occupied by the Main Street Diner. Ralph’s was an independent market with a local, loyal hometown following. The market was bought out by the Clemens Market chain, and later became a Super Fresh. At the present time, the center is anchored by Kohl’s, Ross Dress For Less and CVS. Closures include Super Fresh, Marilou Hallmark Store, and …

No Big Deal

What's a picture worth?

In our digital future, there won't be any Kodak prints gathering dust in a shoebox

“Picture book, pictures of your momma, taken by your papa, a long time ago.”  – The Kinks Pictures.  I will clarify for those of you reading this who might be a little younger than myself.  Years ago, when you wanted to take a picture, you had to use a camera and film.  That was the way pictures worked.  You took the pictures, had no idea if they were good or not, then sent them away to a mysterious lab.  A week or so later, they were finished, and you could see what type of fun you actually had. Sometimes a joker would steal your camera and take a few shots without your knowledge until the film was developed.  I was always guilty of that offense.  I would take cameras and take a few pictures of silly things - a package of cookies or maybe…

Well, I'm a little younger. So, I guess I'll put my 2 cents in. I'm 24. I absolutely love having my digital camera and being able to immediately upload it. I love saving money and I love saving time. I did use film back in the day, but I never got those developed! C'mon! Haha. I was absentminded and too busy with my arms crossed watching bands instead (it's all I could afford, haha). However, I …   more ›
