Karen Pilat, 51, of Hatfield, got a maximum 23 months in county jail on a simple assault misdemeanor for menacing her husband with a butcher knife on Christmas because she didn't like her gifts.
Being a butcher-knife-wielding “Grinch” on Christmas has sent one Hatfield woman to jail. Karen Pilat, 51, got a maximum 23-month sentence for conviction on a misdemeanor simple assault for a Christmas 2011 attack on her husband, according to Mainline Media. Pilat menaced her husband with a butcher knife inside their 2400 block of Merel Drive home Christmas morning. Why? Because she didn’t like her gifts. She wanted jewels and a card. She got an artsy tile and a Bonsai. Assistant District Attorney Cara McMenamin said in the article that Pilat's anger at the wrong gifts "... turned her into essentially the ‘Grinch’ on steroids. She really was an abomination." According to the article, Pilat can serve the sentence over three consecutive …

Our Montco Mommy struggles with that annual curse – her birthday – and ponders her wish list for the perfect gift.
It is that scary time of year. It is a time of year I tend to try to ignore. But for some reason, they keep on coming every 365 days or so. This week is my birthday. Gross. I think somewhere after 21, the thrill is gone. I think that’s about when you stop looking forward and start dreading another digit adding to that immense total. Up until then, you are anxious to see another calendar year flip. You can’t wait until you are a whole hand. You are so excited to hit double digits. Then there are teen years, and you seem so much “cooler” with a “teen” in your age. Soon, you are counting the days until you can have a license. You are so excited to officially become an adult (and yes, for some of us dorks, even excited to vote for the first …

It's confusing to read that she was sent to on a 23-month sentence, then to read that she will serve the sentence over three consecutive weekends. That doesn't add up to 23 months! But the link to the original story clears the confusion; her actual sentence is six days to 23 months.   more ›
