Five Things: First Aid Meet, Fresh Food Drive and More

The General Nash District Boy Scouts of America, featuring more than 200 Scouts from North Penn and Souderton Area, competes in its annual First Aid Meet from 9 a.m. to noon at Indian Valley Middle School on Maple Avenue in Franconia Township.

Are You Ready for Girl Scout Cookie Season?

GSA Cookie Sales kick-off the 2013 selling season on Jan. 17.

You can almost taste the cool zing of the Thin Mint. Can you smell the creamy peanut butter from the Tagalong? Are you ready to crunch into a Samoa? The good news is your wait is almost over. Those in the Montgomery County area will soon be able to get themselves a box of the famed Girl Scout cookies. Sales begin on Thursday, Jan. 17. According to GirlScouts.org, 11 types of cookie treats will be available this year for sale through local girl scout troops, including a newly added Mango Creme variety. Mango Cremes, this year's new cookie, is described as a vanilla and coconut crunchy cookie with a mango filling on the GSA website. The cookie contains the concentrate of many natural fruits. A visual look at citizens celebrating an annual tradition that ushers the holiday season in the borough

You can't beat candy and Santa. You also can't beat community, as thousands packed West Main Street from Mitchell to Memorial Park Saturday for the 62nd Mardi Gras Parade in Lansdale. There were oohs, there were ahs, there was Santa Claus. This year, his elves were Towamencin volunteer firefighters, and his sleigh, Engine 76-4. He was paraded through town by the likes of North Penn Marching Band, Souderton's Big Red Band, Fairmount Fire Co., Hilltown Fire Co., Lansdale Cannoneers, North Penn YMCA (and Adventure Guides), 4-H Clubs, Mater Dei Catholic School, Knights 4 Life, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Brownies, cops, clowns and — literally — cheerleaders.
