Parents are required to provide schools with an updated immunization record or their child may not be admitted to school.
According to a release issued by Montgomery County, the deadline for required school immunizations is approaching – on or about April 30 for most schools. Parents will be required to provide an updated immunization record prior to the deadline or their child may not be permitted to attend school. Parents should review their children’s vaccine status and if it is up to date, contact the school nurse with this information. If your child is not up to date, you should contact your healthcare provider to receive the vaccine. To help parents and caregivers who do not have a family physician or health insurance meet the requirements, the Montgomery County Health Department is holding four evening immunization clinics for school age children. Montgomery County has declared a Code Blue, beginning on Jan. 2, based on the forecasts from the National Weather Service. A Code Blue Cold Weather Emergency declaration is made in the county when winter conditions pose a serious threat of harm or death to individuals without shelter. Code Blue is called when the combination of air temperature and wind chill is expected to be 20 degrees or less. The Code Blue begins Jan. 2 and runs for a 3-day period through Jan. 5.
