Canazaro Homicide Press Conference Set for Wednesday

Hilltown Township Police and Bucks County District Attorney's Office will ask the public's help for information developed during the murder investigation in January

Hilltown Township Police and the Bucks County District Attorney's Office are seeking the public's assistance for information on the murder of Joseph Canazaro on January 18 in Hilltown. Hilltown Township Police Chief Christopher Englehart and District Attorney David Heckler will hold a press conference at noon at the Hilltown Township Police Building to "ask the public’s assistance for information developed during the investigation" of the home invasion and murder of Canazaro, according to a press release. Canazaro, 48, was killed in his home at 321 Swartley Road on the morning of Jan. 18, where he resided with his girlfriend and two children. Hilltown Murder Victim Owed $10M to Casinos, Banks

Chris Palmer of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Hilltown robbery and home invasion murder victim Joseph Canazaro was $10 million in debt to casinos, banks and the government. Bankruptcy documents from 2008 showed Canazaro owed hundreds of thousands of dollars to casinos in Las Vegas, Atlantic City and Biloxi, MS, according to the article. A matter was settled in bankruptcy court where Canazaro cashed $210,000 in faulty checks with two check-cashing agencies, Palmer reports. Locally, Canazaro owed taxes to Hatfield Township and New Britain Township. Update, 5:03 p.m. The last murder that occurred in Hilltown Township was in 1990 at 12 Key Drive, when Eric Motis stabbed his neighbor Louise C. Hoopes, 42, a secretary at Grand View Hospital, and her sons Douglas, 16, and Daniel, 14, in their beds. Motis, 26, committed suicide in prison in 1998. Motis was facing three life sentences after pleading guilty at trial in 1991. Update, 4:23 p.m. The Reporter reports the black pickup truck has been located in Upper Bucks County. The truck has been located behind Quakertown Plaza Shopping Center on the 1400 block of West Broad Street in Quakertown. A Lansdale man and an Ambler man, charged in two armed home invasions that occurred on the 700 block of Willow Street in October 2012 in Lansdale, waived all charges to county arraignment at their preliminary hearings Thursday afternoon. Salvatore Joseph Rocco Jr., 22, of the 400 block of Church Road, Lansdale, and Anthony Thompson, 22, of the 400 block of Railroad Avenue, Ambler, face the following offenses at their formal arraignments Feb. 13 at Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas: A third suspect, Zakarias Hailemicael, 22, whose last known address was the 2400 block of Whitpain Hills Drive in Blue Bell, remains at large, police said. Lansdale Police are investigating a reported home invasion and robbery that occurred Friday morning on Willow Street in Lansdale, where two black males entered a home and asked questions about another man. A Montgomery Township resident was assaulted in their Steeplechase Drive home Friday morning by three black males who confronted them and forced them to assist in the robbery of their own home, Montgomery Township Police said Friday afternoon. Police were called to the home at about 6:27 a.m. The unidentified victim, who was asleep in an upstairs bedroom when the home invasion began, was the sole occupant of the house at the time. The victim was led around the residence for the purpose of retrieving money and valuables, police said.  During the home invasion, the victim was restrained and assaulted, police said. Sketch Released of West Point Home Invader

Upper Gwynedd Township Police said the suspect kicked in the door of a home on West Point Pike Monday morning and fled out the rear door after the resident grabbed a knife

He eluded police, but they need your help in finding the suspect. Upper Gwynedd Township Police have released a sketch of the suspect involved in the home invasion Monday morning in West Point. The suspect is described as a black male, 6 feet tall, medium build, with a dark black or blue shirt and dark blue jean, police said. The suspect was also wearing a black-colored stocking over his head. Police said he appeared to be wearing gloves with fingertips exposed. There were no weapons displayed or insinuated, police said. Homeowner confronted an Asian male with a knife in their home at 5 a.m. Monday

Police said a homeowner confronted an intruder with a knife in their home on the unit block of Meadow Lane in Hatfield Township at 5:10 a.m. Monday. The resident was awakened by the family dog barking, police said, and upon checking the home, the resident found an intruder armed with a dull-colored six-inch knife. The resident went to the bedroom and dialed 9-1-1 for help, police said. The intruder left the home prior to police arrival, police said. No one was injured and nothing was taken, police said. A house in the Belfry section of Whitpain Township was the scene of a home invasion in the early overnight hours of Saturday morning. Police were looking for two black males wearing dark clothing who broke into a home at about 1 a.m. on the 700 block of Danbury Drive. Breaking News Network, a service that monitors police radio reports, reported that the homeowner had fired a gun at the intruders and may have struck at least one of them. Police declined to confirm that the homeowner had shot at the intruders.
