Lawyer: 45-Year History of Mental Illness for Man in Lansdale Matricide

Warren Pennick, 54, of 635 Salford Avenue, Lansdale, the man accused by police of murdering his mother on Halloween, had charges of felony first- and third-degree murder held for March arraignment in Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas at a Skippack preliminary hearing Wednesday morning. Pennick allegedly pushed his mother, Lorraine Pennick, 74, down their basement stairs and then slit her throat, for fear of her becoming "homeless" due to their inability to pay for repairs for the home, police said. According to his attorney, Pennick has suffered with mental illnesses for 45 years, specifically paranoid schizophrenia. Montgomeryville Business Donates to Community Housing Services

The Peterman Group, an insurance and risk management agency in Montgomery Township, donated two carloads of gifts to two needy families in the area through Community Housing Services' holiday sharing program

Employees of The Peterman Group of Montgomeryville have made Christmas bountiful and joyful for two area needy families. The insurance and risk management agency on Montgomery Avenue purchased and donated two carloads of gifts from the holiday wish list of two adopted families from nonprofit Community Housing Services in Lansdale's Holiday Sharing Program. One family is a single mother with two daughters, and the second is a single dad with a daughter. "Every year, we take up an employee collection," said Peterman Group employee Christin Costanzo. No Place Like Home for Manna on Main Street

Manna board of directors, Lansdale councilmembers, business owners celebrate ribbon cutting at new 5,200-square-foot location

Home Sweet Home. Manna on Main Street cut the ribbon Thursday morning at the dedication of its new home at 713 W. Main Street in Lansdale. It can now continue its mission on a larger scale in a much larger space. The new location features a dry food storage area, a food pantry, dining room, commercial-grade kitchen with stainless steel appliances, conference room, director's office, client services office and food drop-off location. There is also a 50-foot-by-18-foot office area, a far upgrade from the previous 10-foot-by-10-foot office at its old location. “Each of you has been invited today because you have made an investment in the mission of Manna, the future of Manna, which is symbolized by this space,” said Karen Kispert, interim …

Farmers' Market Remains Homeless in Winter

Right now, they are homeless in the winter. The Lansdale Farmers' Market, its committee and its vendors are still without a location to hold the market through the winter months. Last month, committee member Molly Whetstone (nee Daveler) came to the parks and recreation committee requesting use of the parks and recreation building for its market in the winter months. The borough parks and recreation committee, along with manager Timi Kirchner, on April 4 said the parks and recreation building - the location where the market would prefer to go - is off limits to consistent renters. "You will have to see if other places are a better fit for the winter market," Kirchner told Whetstone. "This building is not a good fit at this point in time." …

Teens for Jeans Fundraiser Kicks Off Jan. 30

North Penn High School has a chance to win $5,000 and jeans for every student in the school

Neil Diamond was wrong - you can't be forever in blue jeans. So give those gently-used jeans to those who need them. North Penn High School students and staff are participating in an annual Teens for Jeans fundraiser, sponsored by Aéropostale and Dosomething.org. The drive is organized by the North Penn High School Key Club. The jeans will colllected at the high school between Jan. 30 and Feb. 10. The jeans will be donated to needy and homeless teens in the United States. Schools that participate can win $5,000 and jeans for every student in the school from Aéropostale. Code Blue Declared for Montgomery County

A Code Blue has been declared for Montgomery County beginning today and running through Jan. 5

Montgomery County has declared a Code Blue, beginning on Jan. 2, based on the forecasts from the National Weather Service. A Code Blue Cold Weather Emergency declaration is made in the county when winter conditions pose a serious threat of harm or death to individuals without shelter. Code Blue is called when the combination of air temperature and wind chill is expected to be 20 degrees or less. The Code Blue begins Jan. 2 and runs for a 3-day period through Jan. 5.
