The code enforcement and land planning committee heard a technology presentation from the Department of Community Development on how instituting IT upgrades has made it more efficient
Lansdale Borough Code Enforcement has started to save the town $5,000 a year in correspondence costs, and started to boost efficiency by 15 percent by moving away from typewriters and paper. It's all thanks to new technology engaged by borough council. Lansdale Department of Code Enforcement employees Chris Kunkel, Andy Krauss, Maria Lohan and Scott Leatherman have worked for some time on ideas to bring the department into the 21st century and beyond. A New York firm is poised to audit the Information Technology in the North Penn School District for $54,600, according to reports. NIT Inc. was the highest bidder. The board voted on the audit at its Nov. 15 action meeting. Due to issues created by Hurricane Sandy, the district decided to ensure it had a reliable power source for all schools daily, according to The Reporter’s article. The district would also plan on buying generators and batteries to handle electricity and computer server demands at each school, according to the article. A Geographic Information System and establishing an information technology staff are two major initiatives Lansdale Borough can institute now to propel its way toward the future of being a more efficient government. In a technology strategy recommendation given to borough council at the last council meeting in September, David Eisenlohr said the borough can improve its IT resources over the next five years with a $2.8 million investment. Eisenlohr is with Azimuth Group, the firm hired by Lansdale to perform an IT assessment. Eisenlohr gave the results of the assessment to the public at the September meeting. Supervisors recently approved the $17K purchase of two new servers as part of the first phase in the township business continuity plan
Montgomery Township’s data storage is about to get an upgrade, now that supervisors have approved phase one of a business continuity plan. Supervisors unanimously approved Monday the purchase of two servers from Dell Inc. for $17,499.12. The township currently has four servers: one for its e-mail and Smartphones (Exchange), one for its network security (Orion), one for time clocks (Kronos) and one for payroll, finances, accounting and additional Enterprise Resource Planning (Pentamation). Two of those servers – Kronos and Pentamation – will be combined into one new server, eliminating two servers with one.
