Those looking to help local vets need to register by Wednesday.
The Hometown Heroes Walk in Lansdale will be the first of its kind in the borough. The walk is benefitting the Wounded Warrior Project, and is ready to go come June 8. Organizer, Upper Gwynedd resident and Army veteran Mike “Bishop” Rieg has is asking that both walkers and teams register by Wednesday. The walk will begin at Trinity Lutheran Church. The route will continue east on Main Street to Memorial Park. There will be a loop around Memorial Park, and then back to Main Street, westbound to Trinity Lutheran Church. The walk is an offshoot of the Pennsylvania Hero Walk, where people walk 320 miles along the shoulder of Route 30 – 25 miles a day – from the Philadelphia Museum of Art to Wayne, Pa. The incident occurred Sunday evening at 189 Wissahickon Ave. No one was injured in the incident.
A fire on the rear porch of a twin home at 185 and 189 Wissahickon Ave. in Upper Gwynedd Township was extensively damaged in a fire on Mother's Day. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Upper Gwynedd Township Fire Marshal and damages are estimated in excess of $200,000, according to Upper Gwynedd Fire Chief John Scheiter. Around 6:14 p.m. Sunday, Upper Gwynedd Township Fire Company responded to the home located on the corner of Wissahickon Avenue and Beaver Street, according to the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety computer-aided dispatch system. Newsweek released its list of the nation's top high schools, looking at student's college readiness and focusing on "graduation rates, participation in college-level classes via Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) programs, and acceptance into a two- or four-year college program,"according to the report on The Daily Beast.
