GLAX Ousted by North Penn in Districts

The Spring-Ford girls had a shot, but lost 16-9 to North Penn lacrosse on Tuesday

As the clouds covered the sky at the start of the girls lacrosse District One first round game at North Penn High School, the Spring-Ford girls lacrosse team were in a familiar place. Just a few weeks ago, the Rams defeated North Penn, 12-10 at Spring-Ford High School. Unfortunately, things wouldn't look so familiar by the middle of the first half. Spring-Ford fell behind quick, giving up six goals after 18 minutes of play. The Maidens led 6-2 with 11:04 left in the first half, but something just clicked. "We had some breakdowns on defense. We weren't covering the cutters. We had to play more with a sense of urgency in a district playoff game," said Maidens head coach Jami Wilus Behm. "Every little ball, every second counts. It was a big …

After picking up 6-0 victory over Souderton to start the week, the Maidens went to extra innings before beating Hatboro-Horsham in eight innings, 2-1. When the Maidens faced Ridley in non-league action on Thursday, it took a suicide squeeze to end a 10-inning marathon.  North Penn took home a 3-2 win as Michelle Rauch laid down the squeeze bunt in the extra frame. Robinson Playing Key Role on the Court for UMass

The North Penn grad is following her dream.

Shakia Robinson has a passion for the game of basketball that began in her childhood. The North Penn graduate is now playing college basketball at UMass. However, it was the opportunity to play for her father at an early age that inspired Robinson to make basketball a part of her life.  “I always loved the game,” said Robinson. “Back when I was a little kid, I was coached by my dad.  I was a point guard and shooting guard.  I really got my passion from the game because of my dad.  I started playing seriously when I was in fourth grade. We had March Madness in elementary school.” Robinson is hoping to one day experience her own version of March Madness at UMass.  She is the top player off the bench for a Minutewomen team that is going …
