Two other officers were commended for saving a life in December 2011
It was only fitting that, during National Police Week, four Montgomery Township officers and two detectives were awarded commendations Monday night for their efforts in lifesaving and protecting the community. Three officers - Lee Wagner, Michael Jenkins and Brian Gerrard - were commended for wrangling two armed and dangerous men at the 7-11 on North Wales Road, who were wanted for armed robbery, attempted homicide, operating a stolen vehicle and firearm violaitons throughout Luzerne County. The trio arrested William Gronosky, 29, and Kevin Williams, 29, on April 15 inside the 7-11. The suspects had been on the run from authorities since March 15. Monica Shay died Thursday. She and her husband, Paul Shay, owned the house in Gilbertsville, Douglass Township where they and three others were shot on Saturday.
A third victim in Saturday's shooting is dead. Monica Shay, 58, died Thursday, said Paul Hoffman, Deputy Coroner for Lehigh Valley County. The exact cause of her death is undetermined, he said. An autopsy will be conducted at 8 a.m. on Friday. Shay was shot in the head at a Renninger Road, Gilbertsville, Douglass Township house she owned with her husband Paul Shay, 64. On Sunday, Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman and Douglass Township Police Chief Barry L. Templin Jr. identified the victims in the shooting as Paul Shay and his wife, Monica, Joseph Shay, Kathryn Erdmann and her son, Gregory. Mark Richard Geisenheyner, wanted for the murder of a toddler and an adult male, and the shooting of three other people, is dead, officials say.
A massive manhunt for a killer is over. Mark Richard Geisenheyner, a suspect in the shootings of five people that left a child and man dead in Montgomery County, is dead after a six-hour standoff with police in Trainer, Delaware County. A short time ago, Montgomery County First Assistant District Attorney Kevin Steele confirmed that the Delaware County medical examiner declared Geisenheyner dead today. Police began a hunt for a suspect after finding five people had been shot at a residence at 50 Renninger Road in Gilbertsville, Douglass Township around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday. Heavily armed and armored members of CMERT are scouring Douglass Township this morning after a Saturday night shooting that authorities say left two dead and three others wounded.
Montgomery County Assistant District Attorney Kevin Steele said this morning that there were two dead as a result of last night's shooting, including one child and "an adult white male." Three others were injured, Steele said. He did not further identify them or provide any information on their conditions. Earlier reports described a five-year-old child dead at the scene and a two-year-old child dead after transport to Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. At least one injured white male with three gunshot wounds was transported from the scene almost two hours after the shooting.
