The Greater North Penn Area Nutrition Coalition collected donations of fruits and vegetables from the public Saturday at Shop Rite in Hatfield Township
The public was giving the gift of good health to area food pantries Saturday during the Greater North Penn Area Nutrition Coalition's Fresh Food Drive at Shop Rite in Hatfield Township. "It will get busier as we go," said Carol Doyle, of Keystone Opportunity Center in Souderton. "It takes a little explaining of what we're doing and why there's a need for it." The coalition holds a fresh fruit drive to collect fruits and vegetables, like potatoes, bananas, broccoli, pears, grapefruits, carrots and more, twice a year. All items collected are evenly distributed to the participating food pantries in the region: Bethlehem Baptist Church in Blue Bell, Emmanuel E.C. The math classes at the Lansdale middle school know that Food + Donations = Happiness
Food + Donating = Happiness. This was one equation that 26 Penndale Middle Schoolers will remember for life, following their delivery of more than 2,900 canned goods to Manna on Main Street Friday morning. "Throughout the school, all math classes did a canned food drive," said Sara Heil, Penndale eighth grade math teacher. "We made bar graphs for each of the classes and each student filled in one box per can, to see which class could bring in the most. The winning class is the second-period class. They brought in 234 cans. My five classes overall brought in 825 cans. Overall, for all three grades, they brought in 2,929 cans. We filled 67 boxes and brought them over in four vehicles." Heil said it started 11 years ago with just her math …

For the third year, Bridle Path Elementary students in the North Penn School District collected, bagged and donated breakfast meals for clients at Manna on Main Street and Lamb Foundation, and winter coats for North Penn Boys and Girls Club
They took a small piece of their day to make a big difference. For the third year in a row, and in the 50th anniversary year of the March on Washington, Bridle Path Elementary students on Thursday improved the lives of clients of Manna on Main Street in Lansdale and Lamb Foundation in North Wales, and the lives of members of the North Penn Boys and Girls Club in Lansdale. Students and their parents collected breakfast items, such as oatmeal, hot chocolate, raisins, granola and the like, bagged them and donated them to the Lansdale food pantry and soup kitchen, and the North Wales Borough supportive housing organization. The student council at Bridle Path also banded together to collect winter coats for the young members of the North Penn …

Manna on Main Street added $3,000 more to its coffers Friday afternoon, thanks to a grant from the Food Lion Charitable Foundation. The check was presented to Manna's Development Officer Kristyn Didominick at Bottom Dollar Food in Montgomeryville. "We applied for a grant through the Food Lion Charitable Foundation to purchase food for our pantry," Didominick said. "A lot of families we serve need fresh vegetables and fruits throughout the year." Food Lion and Bottom Dollar Food are owned by Delhaize America. "Food Lion put this together," said store manager Brian Egolf. "They provide grants to support local food pantries." Lansdale Police Chief Robert McDyre reviewed with the public safety committee this month several concerns brought up by residents near the proposed Lansdale Collaborative Project
Residents living on or near Highland Avenue and Forest Avenue in Lansdale may be pleased to know several traffic and public safety issues have been fully addressed by the borough. At a Lansdale Public Safety Committee report this month, Lansdale Police Chief Robert McDyre outlined eight issues that have either been solved or continue to be monitored by the borough. Most of the issues were brought to the attention of the committee at a July 11 meeting and revolved around the upcoming Lansdale Collaborative Project, spearheaded by the North Penn YMCA and involving Advanced Living, The PEAK Center and Manna on Main Street. Manna on Main Street's Turkey Basket distribution was another success for 250 families
Let's talk turkey. In fact, let's talk free turkey. Manna on Main Street's Turkey Basket distribution on Monday afternoon and evening was another success for some 250 families. By 1 p.m., the line was out Manna's front door, down the sidewalk, and into the parking lot at Mitchell Avenue and Main Street. "We are giving out turkeys and all the fixings to all families that shop with us," said volunteer coordinator Anthony Tarzia. Manna serves more than 1,000 families on a regular basis. In order to be eligible for Manna services, families and individuals must show proof of residence in the North Penn School District area. Furthermore, the turkeys and fixings were 100 percent donated. Fixings included fresh produce, egg nog, milk, yams, and …

The donation drive ended Saturday, where volunteers from Pennbrook and St. Cyril's in Jamison, Bucks County, organized and stocked donations in Manna's pantries. It also coincided with the Lansdale Business Association's Pre-Parade Pancake Fundraiser
The dump trucked pulled up in the rear of Manna on Main Street Saturday morning, stuffed with boxes, which were, in turn, stuffed with non-perishable items collected from the Boy Scouts' Scouting for Food drive. One by one, Scouts from Troop 303 from Corpus Christi Church in Upper Gwynedd picked up a box from the truck, donated by Sam Harkins, handed it to another Scout, Cub Scout from Pack 303, or parent, and took it inside to be sorted onto shelves in the food pantries. "It's better than the last four years," said Eagle Scout Paul Rakszawski with Troop 303 of the "Scouting for Food" response. "We have beautiful weather and a great turnout. It's been amazing to see how generous people are." Meanwhile, dozens upon dozens of student …

Manna on Main Street held its second 5K Race to End Hunger and 1-Mile Fun Run Saturday at Knapp Elementary School in Lansdale. There was also a 120-yard relay race using shopping carts stocked with donated goods
It's not easy to run in flip-flops — and even harder when you're pushing a shopping cart filled with donated goods in a 120-yard relay race. Yet Emily Beynon, 13, and Kim Ehleben, 13, of Mary, Mother of the Redeemer Parish School in Montgomery Township — along with classmates Samantha Splendido, 12, and Jackie Campbell, 14 — became the victors of the relay, beating out Manna on Main Street at the nonprofit's second annual 5K Race to End Hunger and 1-Mile Fun Run fundraiser event Saturday at Knapp Elementary School. "Painfully," was Beynon's answer on how she was able to race in flip-flops. "No clue," was Ehleben's answer to the same question. The group of girls were at the fundraiser to collect canned goods as part of a senior project for …
