David Cook, stepbrother of slain Quakertown man Michael Marino Jr., told Perkasie Borough Council that his brother was not violent and said Police Chief Joseph Gura's investigation is a conflict of interest
The stepbrother of slain Quakertown man Michael W. Marino Jr. who was killed unarmed by Officer Seth Mumbauer in June 9 in Sellersville, an action deemed justified homicide by Bucks County District Attorney David Heckler, came to Perkasie Borough Council and demanded an outside, independent investigation into the shooting. According to Jennifer Connor of The Reporter, David Cook told council Aug. 6 that Marino "has never been in trouble or done anything to harm another person." Officer Seth Mumbauer remains on leave through an internal investigation by Peraksie Borough Police
Seth Mumbauer, the Perkasie Borough Police officer who fired the fatal shot at Michael W. Marino June 9 in Sellersville, remains on administrative leave during an internal police department investigation, according to Bob Keeler of The Souderton Independent. Keeler's article states Mumbauer remains on leave, but Officer Steven Graff and Sgt. James Rothrock have retuned to duty. Perkasie Borough Police Chief Joseph Gura told Keeler that he could not comment on the findings of Bucks County District Attorney David Heckler because of pending litigation. Family and friends of Michael W. Marino Jr., the 26-year-old Quakertown man and former Souderton Area High School student, are invited this afternoon to a memorial service. The memorial will take place at 2:30 p.m. at Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, 701 Derstine Ave., Lansdale. A vigil in honor of Marino is planned for 4:30 p.m. Saturday, June 16 at Clymer Avenue and East Old State Road in Sellersville. This is the location where Marino Jr. was shot to death by an unidentified Perkasie Police officer. A memorial currently exists at the location. Michael W. Marino, Jr., 26, of Quakertown passed away suddenly on June 9, 2012, according to an obituary on the website of Huff and Lakjer Funeral Home. He was the beloved son of Michael W. Marino and the late Trudy A. Simione and step-son of Kalie Marino. Michael was a graduate of Lakeside High School. He was a charming young man who loved nature and people. He had just started classes at Bucks County Community College and loved working with his hands, employed as a carpenter for some time.
