Montgomery Township Police and other law enforcement officials will hold several demonstrations on Saturday.
Montgomery Township Police will celebrate the 50th anniversary of National Police week by joining other local law enforcement officials at a Montgomery Mall Police Week event Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. According to the National Police Week website, the event was created through a presidential proclamation by John F. Kennedy in 1962, which designated May 15 as “Peace Officers Memorial Day.” The day and events throughout the week are designed to honor law enforcement officials that have paid the ultimate sacrifice. Montgomery Mall and Montgomery Township Environmental Advisory Committee host the annual Earth Day celebration Saturday. There is also residential paper shredding and electronics recycling.
The Montgomery Township Environmental Advisory Committee is partnering with Montgomery Mall to celebrate the worth of Earth. On Saturday, the Montgomery Mall hosts an annual Earth Day event, complete with information on how to contribute toward helping the environment. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., outside the lower Macy’s, visitors can obtain information and view demos on composting, raised bed gardens, rain barrels, and stormwater management. This area will have children’s crafts, as well as local bike safety and trail guides. At 11:30 a.m., Briar Bush Nature Center will have demonstrations with their animals. The suspect fled the Montgomery Mall in a red Ford Fusion on March 12.
Montgomery Township Police are seeking the public's help in identifying the suspect captured on video surveillance of a theft from Sears at Montgomery Mall. Police said the suspect stole a pair of boots from the store at the Montgomery Township mall on March 12. He fled in a newer red Ford Fusion, police said. If you recognize the suspect, call Montgomery Township Detectives at 215-362-2301.

Jennifer Connor of The Reporter reported on Winter Blast at Montgomery Mall on Saturday. The free multijurisdictional event — it’s the creation of The North Penn Recreation Consortium, comprised of Hatfield Township and borough, Lansdale, Montgomery Township, Towamencin Township and Upper Gwynedd Township — had everything from magicians and ventriloquists to karate demos and face painting. Montgomery Mall retailers will now be able to put signage on the exterior of the mall. In a The Reporter Online story by Dan Sokil, Montgomery Township supervisors this month updated its sign ordinance as it relates to the regional shopping district, by editing discrepancies and inconsistencies in various provisions. Under the new changes, according to the article, businesses inside the mall with a maximum of 5,000 square feet of floor area can have a 125-square-foot outside sign, even on an awning. Businesses between 5,000 and 10,000 square feet can have a 125-square-foot sign, plus extra area for the amount of floor space over 5,000, according to the article. The new Police Athletic League got some parents and teens to commit to being a part of the partnership between law enforcement and the community Saturday at Montgomery Mall
It's once in a blue moon that shoppers will witness an Upper Gwynedd Township Police motorcycle making laps inside the Montgomery Mall. When Officer Fred Lynch briefly wailed the siren, it turned some heads. He greeted shoppers as he drove by, and then said hello to him on his return lap. Lynch then parked the cycle outside the lower level of JC Penney's; before long, children and teens were taking a seat on the cycle themselves, blaring the horn and causing more to turn their heads. Often, those people would see what all the noise was about — and leave with their child signed up for free as a new member of the nonprofit North Penn Police Athletic League. Kris Kringle arrived early to the North Penn area Friday night with his annual tenure at Montgomery Mall
Montgomery Mall's reindeer roof parking is filled up for the next 51 days. Santa Claus has come to town. Kris Kringle brought his cherry nose and twinkling eyes to the North Penn area Friday night, with an arrival and traditional grand entrance to the mall via Fire Department of Montgomery Township.
