North Penn School Board Says No to Charter School, Again

Education for New Generations was denied a charter school application by the school board in February. It reapplied and was denied again.

The last remaining charter school applicant in North Penn School District was denied unanimously by North Penn School Board Thursday night, according to The Reporter. Education for New Generations had re-applied to be considered for a charter school in the district after the board initially denied it earlier this year, along with two other applicants. School Board President Vince Sherpinsky said the denial was due to a lack of sustainable support for the school, telling the founders that “if you fail and cause difficulty, we’ll get blamed for it.” Sherpinsky then suggested eNG open a private school. One of the founders of the school, Naomi Rodriguez, told the board there were 226 pre-enrollments, according to the article. Read more at this…

This is going to be a wasted effort. School districts do not see any great profits through even the first few years. The district is modeling itself after Pennsbury school district. How much money have they made so far? Less than $10,000 for sure, and well into the third year of their deal. They wanted to make $400,000 and are no where near that. How does the district figure on making $100,000 …   more ›

NP School Board Doesn't Want Charter School

The application to open Montgomery Flex Charter School was denied Thursday night

North Penn School Board said no to funding a charter school in the school district that set its sights on opening down the street from St. Stanisalus Parish School. Montgomery Flex wanted to educate students in grades seven through 12 in an online curriculum. It wanted to rent out the former SuperFresh/Clemens location at Hillcrest Shopping Center. It wanted to save parents $15,000 a year in tuition. North Penn School Board - minus Rick Miniscalco and Joseph Sullivan - said "No thanks." Under Pennsylvania law, a charter school would be an independent public school operating under a charter from the North Penn School Board of Directors. A charter can be granted for no more than five years by a school board, at which time it must be …

If they can't DOT THE I's, and CROSS THE T's with this application, I wonder how they think they will run a proper edumacational facility. Oh, that's right ... with other peoples money ... on the backs of the taxpayers ... and for their own financial gain.   more ›

And class with less than 20 students could be gone, except in special education and gifted. That is what the North Penn School Board has on the table right now for the 2012-2013 budget. North Penn School District is looking to raise taxes 2.9 percent next year and cut 41 items from the budget in order to get to a $203.9 million price tag for 2012-2013. The current millage rate is 21.9564. The increase would bring the rate to 22.5931 mills. One mill equals 1/1000 of a dollar or 1/…

Montgomery Flex Receives Mixed Reactions At Hearing

Pointed questions from the school board and varying public opinion highlight Wednesday night's school board meeting

If Montgomery Flex is going to succeed in their plan to place a charter school within the North Penn School District, then it's going to have to address quite a few of the questions which went unanswered during Wednesday night's public hearing. The group plans to install a charter school by the summer of 2012 within the Hillcrest Shopping Center on East Main Street in Lansdale.  The 34,000-square-foot location is the same site where Clemens Market and SuperFresh once stood. Tim Sager, a former teacher who is leading the push for the charter school, began the hearing with a public presentation in which he praised North Penn School District for being able to make the most out of what he referred to as an "inefficient model." "North Penn is a…

I believe that North Penn School District doesnt want to do this because they are afraid of the students they MAY lose to this charter school. As a NP Alumni and with 2 children within the District right now, I would LOVE to have the opportunity to send my child to where they would get individual education. My 2 have GIEPS, but North Penn rarely follows through with some things and is quite …   more ›
