The former Spin-A-Round roller skating rink on Route 309 in Colmar, Hatfield Township, is opening up in the spring as In-Line 309, a roller derby rink and indoor sport court
Roller skating is back in Hatfield. The shuttered former Skate 309 (formerly Spin-A-Round, formerly Skate Ranch) on Route 309 in Colmar, Hatfield Township, is re-opening soon as "In-Line 309." A message on the business's voicemail states that In-Line 309 will be the "new premier roller hockey and indoor sports venue." Doors will be opening in May. Roller hockey leagues are forming now. Roller derby is also expected to be part of the venue. As our readers have posted on Lansdale Patch Facebook, the whole floor is being redone to make it a bigger sport court. Locally, a team called Buxmont Roller Derby Dolls is forming in the area. More information on membership and the roller derby sport is available at a meet-and-greet set for March 16 at …

Driving the parkway went smoothly on opening day, but it remains to be seen if the scenic road will be able to handle heavy traffic
It's like a suburban Skyline Drive. That's the impression I got as I drove the Route 202 Parkway just minutes after it opened to traffic late Monday afternoon. The real Skyline Drive is a 105-mile-long, two-lane road that runs the length of Shendandoah National Park in Virginia, featuring overlooks with sweeping vistas. The 35 mph road is free of commercial development, has overpasses and underpasses to avoid traffic lights, and is restricted to cars and passenger trucks. The new Route 202 Parkway would be a fantastic road if it were located in the Endless Mountains of Pennsylvania. It is protected from commercial development and private access, and is paralleled for its entire length by a paved 12-foot-wide bike-hike trail separated from …
PennDOT expects the new 8.4-mile roadway to open before evening rush hour
After years of construction, the Route 202 Parkway, spanning from Route 63/Welsh Road to Route 611 in Bucks County, will open today between 4 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. According to PennDOT's Gene Blaum, there will be a staged opening with PennDOT trucks serving as pace cars. These pace cars will proceed south from Route 611 and north from Route 63. An opening event begins at 2 p.m. on the Parkway, north of County Line Road. The new $200-million, 8.4-mile-long Parkway will give motorists a direct route for travel along Route 202 between Route 63 (Welsh Road) and Route 611 in Montgomery, Warrington and Doylestown townships. The speed limit on the parkway will be 40 mph. “We are eager to finish the remaining work along the nearly nine-mile-long …

The $200 million Parkway will provide a direct route between Doylestown and Montgomeryville
After decades of discussion and years of planning and construction, the Route 202 Parkway will open in early December, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said Thursday. The $200 million U.S. Route 202 Parkway will connect Doylestown and Montgomeryville. “We are eager to finish the remaining work along the nearly nine-mile-long Parkway so we can open the new roadway and its shared-use path to commuters, bicyclists and pedestrians,” PennDOT District Executive Lester C. Toaso said in a statement. “The Parkway is nearly completed but contractors will work the next few weeks to wrap up a number of project-related tasks.” Items still left to finish include extensive landscaping; more than 10,000 trees, shrubs and perennials will be …

St. Stanislaus Elementary is now Mater Dei. Thursday morning saw the opening prayer for and blessing of the new school - not to mention the welcoming of students from St. Maria Goretti and St. Rose of Lima
It’s still St. Stanislaus. No matter how you look at it — Mater Dei Catholic School, formerly St. Stanislaus Elementary until the St. Rose, St. Goretti and St. Stans Archdiocese merger — will always be St. Stans. It’s not blasphemous to say: it’s the people, not the building. After all, Philadelphia Archbishop Charles Chaput said it too — “The most important part of the parish is the people.” New school was old school Thursday morning as Chaput and the Mater Dei faculty, students and parents, blessed and dedicated Mater Dei Catholic School. New faces, same faces, different places, familiar places. Thursday was the collection of students from St. Stanislaus, St. Maria Goretti Elementary in Hatfield and St. Rose of Lima Elementary in North …

Geppert Bros. Demolition in Colmar is knocking down the former Boscov's site in preparation for construction of Wegmans
Goodbye, Boscov's. Hello, Wegmans. The Colmar division of Geppert Brothers Demolition is busy destroying, pulling down and ripping out the upper and lower levels of the former Boscov's store at Montgomery Mall in Montgomeryville. A Wegmans will be built in its place, with a projected opening in 2013. In November 2011, Simon Property Group signed an agreement with Wegmans to construct a freestanding grocery store next to the mall. "It will be freestanding and will not be connected to the mall," said Jo Natale, Wegmans director of media relations, in November 2011. Wegmans opens three stores every year. In 2012, Wegmans committed to opening a market in King of Prussia and two markets in Maryland. Macy's, Salsas and Dick's Sporting Goods all …
