Victorian celebration planned for families this weekend.
With just a week to go until the holiday weekend, the county is gearing up for a visit from the Easter Bunny a little early. A celebration of Victorian times will be highlighted at the historic property known as Pennypacker Mills in Schwenksville. "Spend an afternoon creating Easter crafts that will be especially fun and oh so Victorian on Saturday, March 23 at Pennypacker Mills," said a recent release by Montgomery County Director of Communications Frank Custer. "Using creative vintage-inspired materials, participants will create cool, kid-friendly crafts that will make the Easter holiday even more special by adding a personal touch." The gardens were honored by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society for their 'community greening' efforts.
A children's garden at Pennypacker Mills in Schwenksville and a rooftop garden at a county facility in Norristown have been honored by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) as "community greening champions." The Children's Heritage Garden at Pennypacker Mills, which is open to the public from mid-May through mid-September, was the result of an archival research effort to determine the types of flowers and vegetables were historically planted at the colonial-era mansion and farmstead. Visitors can smell, taste, and touch the garden's herbs, flowers, and vegetables on garden tours. The PHS called the Children's Heritage Garden "an outstanding public planting…improving the quality of life through horticulture." The Rooftop Gardens at …

George Washington visited the area during the Revolutionary War, and those sites can be visited complete with tours which are offered by costumed guides. To begin your journey back in time, start at the Peter Wentz …
