Montgomery Supervisors Propose $11.8M Budget, No Tax Increase

The general fund for 2013 will have a $6,000 surplus

Montgomery Township Supervisors Monday approved advertisement of an $11.8 million budget, with no tax increase for 2013, and a $6,160 surplus. The budget will be adopted at the Dec. 17 meeting. Montgomery Township has not had a tax increase for more than nine years. In 2006, supervisors reduced the millage rate from 1.61 mills to 1.49 mills. Homestead exemption remains at $30,000. Finance Director Shannon Drosnock said more than 75 percent of property owners participate in the homestead exemption program, totaling $308,000 in annual tax relief. Total revenues in the 2013 budget are 3.4 percent higher than in 2012 — $11,872,320 compared to $11,481,685. Of those total revenues, $9.5 million are tax revenues, which are up 2.9 percent from …

NPSD Has $10 Million Surplus

An accountant for North Penn School District has asked the finance committee for guidance on where to assign the extra money in order to complete an audit

The North Penn School Board Finance Committee has been tasked to figure out where to assign nearly $10 million in surplus money. According to Linda Stein of The Reporter, the district’s accountant informed the finance committee this week that state law requires assignment of the money, and must be done so in order to complete an audit. District Business Administration Director Robert Schoch recommended $2.8 million be placed in capital reserves and $5 million deposited into an account for employee pensions, according to the article. Supervisors OK $610,000 State Aid Allocation to Pension Funds

Supervisors also approved police pension contributions at 5 percent of salary for 2012

Taxed out-of-state insurance premiums have already aided Fire Department of Montogmery Township’s Fire Relief Association, and now it’s going to help the pensions of uniformed and non-uniformed employees. Supervisors this month approved a $610,010.94 allocation from the Act 205 General Municipal Pension System State Aid program. Of that allocation, $200,000 will be allocated to the township’s non-uniform pension plan, or 32.8 percent, and $410,010.94 will be allocated to the township police pension plan. Act 205, passed in 1984, is known as the Municipal Pension Plan Funding Standard and Recovery Act. Lansdale Borough ratifies police and allied workers union contracts

Each officer will receive 3.5 percent wage increases the first two years and 3 percent increases in the last two years. The contract agreements were completed without arbitration

The Lansdale Borough Police Benevolent Association and the Allied Workers Union have come to four-year agreements on their respective contracts with the borough. Last week, borough councilman Dan Dunigan announced each contract agreement is effective Jan. 1, 2011, to Dec. 31, 2014.   “(The police contract ratification) was done so without arbitration,” Dunigan said, adding it had an exceptional vote of support from the police. “We avoided the pitfalls of the past of creating an adversarial relationship,” Dunigan said. “It was mutual.
