Residents, council members, the borough manager and the mayor all expressed their opinions and facts about the future of Lansdale Borough Hall.
While a motion to enter into a contract with Spiezle Architects on the development of two alternative designs for the future municipal complex at Vine and Broad streets was delayed at the Feb. 20 Lansdale Council meeting, residents packed the meeting room to hear concerns and express opinions on the historic building. There was also another debate, this one limited to councilmembers and Mayor Andy Szekely: Should a Request for Proposal go out for the design of the complex and not be awarded to Spiezle, who won the bid for the initial Facilities and Grounds Study? Resident Bill Henning was the mastermind behind a petition on Change.org to stop the destruction of Lansdale Borough Hall. The petition features signatures of many residents and …

While most residents concede the 79-year-old building needs major repairs, the overriding question is whether to fix it or tear it down and start over. Here's a bit of the history of the former post office at Vine and Broad streets
In recent weeks there has been much discussion about the future of Lansdale’s Borough Hall. While most residents concede the 79-year-old building needs major repairs the overriding question is whether to fix it or tear it down and start over. Is the former post office a landmark worthy of preservation or just another old downtown building to be demolished along with the 75 others – including the Hotel Tremont and the Lansdale Theatre – that were razed over the last half century? A recent study concluded that both borough hall and the adjacent police station desperately need attention. The police station, originally built in 1957 as a library, has little historic significance and, in fact, served its original purpose for only 15 years. …

Local fan starts petition to bring back retro jerseys for The Birds.
Do you miss them? Did you love the Eagles so much more when they were in a kelly green jersey? Many fans have come to dislike the new "midnight green," black/charcoal and white design. Perhaps it is the dismal last season, or maybe it just is a longing for yesteryear, but some fans have decided to do something about it. According to an article on philly.com, "Cranekicker," a local twitter personality, has started a petition to bring back the kelly green uniforms of the past. The Eagles had donned the kelly green (with silver eagles' wings on the helmet) uniforms from 1973 to 1995, according to the Eagles year-by-year history. Cranekicker has written a petition to Eagles' Owner Jeffrey Laurie to ask for the official team colors to be …

Residents of Forest Avenue, Highland Avenue and East Main Street wanted council to table the vote on a preliminary/final land development on the Lansdale Collaborative Project until officials addressed the entranceway from Forest Avenue
They tried to stop it with 41 names on a petition. They have attended numerous public safety committee meetings and planning commission meetings for months to get their concerns resolved. They came out in full force Wednesday night and requested Lansdale Borough Council deny and table a vote on preliminary and final land development approval for the YMCA/PEAK Center/Advanced Living Communities/Manna on Main Street project — at least until all resident concerns are addressed. All they wanted was a restriction on the entrance into the property from Forest Avenue, which has served as one since as long as Lans-Bowl and the North Penn YMCA have been in existence. Yet, the efforts of the residents of Forest Avenue, Highland Avenue and East Main …

A MoveOn.org petition where people will distribute one million Romney-Ryan pink slips will occur Thursday at Montgomery Mall
A MoveOn.org petition against presidential Republican candidate Mitt Romney and running mate Paul Ryan is set to occur Thursday at Montgomery Mall in Montgomeryville. A group of individuals is organzing an anti-Romney-Ryan pink slip flyering event at 2 p.m. It is organized by Donna Cockenberg. According to a MoveOn.org event post, the event is being done because Romney and Ryan's "extreme economic policies would cost the U.S. one million jobs in just one year and more than 4 million jobs by the end of 2014." The event post claims a campaign to expose Romney as a 1 percent candidate is working. "Voters need to know that Romney-Ryan will kill millions of jobs. Because this election will be won or lost on the issue of jobs, we're blowing up …

What is SOPA and PIPA? And why are so many websites doing a blackout today?
Good luck using Wikipedia or Craigslist today, as they have been blacked out in protest of the Protect Intellectual Property Act and Stop Online Piracy Act. You can find a PDF of the act in our photo gallery. Google, Mozilla, Wired and Reddit have also censored their sites in protest of the acts. According to an article on the L.A. Times, lawmakers want the acts passed in order to protect the property rights of music, movie and TV studios. This means giving the power to censor the Internet to the entertainment industry. Copyright holders and the U.S. Department of Justice can seek court orders against websites accused of enabling or facilitating copyright infringement. This could include barring online advertising networks from doing …

A coalition of former Lansdale youths are bringing a business plan for the future of 311 W. Main St.
It was music to their ears. The 311 W. Main St. Task Force got exactly what they’ve been looking for Tuesday night when a coalition of Montgomery County residents, representing a subculture of a 20-plus-year Lansdale history, spoke out about the passion of revitalizing the giant eyesore on Main Street and offering their help in raising funds, spreading the word and changing the town. “I think it was great and fantastic. There’s a lot of energy,” said task force Chairman Mike Sobel after the meeting. “It’s a lot of passion is really what it is. They very sincerely want to get involved in this. We asked for community input, and we got it tonight.” Remember these names: Kevin Thomas, Derek Calhoun, Dave Heck and C.J. Morgan. They are on the …
