Letter: Dunigan Wants to Continue Improving Lansdale's Fiscal Health

Submit letters to the editor at lansdale@patch.com or tonyd@patch.com.

To my Friends and Neighbors of Ward 3: My name is Daniel P. Dunigan, and I am the only experienced Republican candidate running for Council in Ward 3. I am proud to have been elected in 2009 by the residents of Lansdale, who valued my extensive professional experience in finance.  That experience led to me being appointed to Chairman of the Borough’s Administration & Finance committee, a position I have held since being sworn-in in January 2010. As Chairman of the Administration & Finance committee, I led the current administration’s effort to restore the Borough’s fiscal health.  In the decade preceding my term, the Borough was headed for bankruptcy as a result of continued deficit spending.  Since my time as Chair, the Borough has been …

Letter: Sobel Stands for Lansdale First

Send letters to lansdale@patch.com.

Hello friends and neighbors in Lansdale's Ward 2 (polling stations at Knapp Elementary, Elm Terrace and United Methodist Church). I just wanted to write one last note before the May 21st primary. Very briefly I wish to cover what I've done for Lansdale Borough over the last three and a half years. It's now up to you, the voters to decide if you want me to serve another term as your Councilman. I stand for Lansdale first and not the dictates of any political party.   There have been many things I have accomplished, with the cooperation and help of Borough staff and fellow Council Members. The first of which is one of my proudest. In 2009, Chief Bob McDyre came to me and explained the current personnel situation in the Lansdale Police …

Democrat Withdraws Candidacy in Lansdale Council Race

Kathleen Becker had submitted a petition to run in Ward Two in the Lansdale Borough Council race. A listing of endorsed candidates on the Lansdale Democratic Party website shows Becker has withdrawn from the race.

Lansdale Democrat Kathleen Becker has withdrawn her candidacy for Lansdale Borough Council in the 2013 Election. The Lansdale Democratic Party website shows "candidacy withdrawn" under its endorsed candidates for Ward Two in Lansdale Borough. Ward Two is at presently served by Lansdale Democratic Party Chairman Jack Hansen, Democrat Rich DiGregorio Jr. and Republican Mike Sobel. Sobel is running for re-election on Lansdale Borough Council. He was not endorsed by the Lansdale Republican Club. Sobel is being challenged by Republican Tom Work, who sits on the Lansdale Parking Authority.  Without a candidate in Ward Two, Lansdale Democratic Party would have no candidate on the ballot, as there is one open seat in Ward Two. Thus, whoever …

Letter: Lansdale Democratic Mailers Misleading Public

Lansdale Borough Council Democratic candidate Robert Willi said mailers from opponents Liz Troy and Leon Angelichio are 'misleading and false.'

My name is Robert Willi and I am running for Lansdale Borough Council in Ward 3. Recently, my opponents Leon Angelichio and Liz Troy sent out a mailer to Democrats in Ward 3 that was misleading and false. First, let me give you their false version: "Cable companies offered to televise Lansdale's local government meetings for free, but Council said no."  Here is the fact: Council never voted on this, because it never came before council. It is still in committee and being reviewed. Plus it is not free. Cameras and other equipment would have to be bought at borough (taxpayer) cost. The only thing that would be free is the government access channel that would broadcast it.  Their other false statement is that they want to make government …

Is this a joke? Council can spend money on furniture but not on making meetings more accessible by television broadcast? Sure you can get documents if you want to jump through the hoops and wait while the response time limits expire with no answers to your requests.   more ›

Castor Still Eyeing a Run At Governor

Don't count the county commissioner out just yet.

As Patch has previously reported, Montgomery County Commissioner Bruce Castor is still undecided on whether to run or not in the 2014 Pennsylvania governor race. Castor's run against current Republican Gov. Tom Corbett once before, and it is unclear if he'll make a run in the coming year's primary. According to TribLive.com, Castor may want a rematch of the 2004 attorney general primaries. Castor told the Trib "he doesn't want the GOP to repeat the mistake it made in 2006 by backing then-Sen. Rick Santorum for re-election." "Castor, 51, called Corbett a 'ham-handed' politician who has failed to deliver on a conservative agenda," said the Trib. "He said Corbett blew his opportunity to push through conservative priorities, such as a right-to…

Jack, I said Castor finished 3rd out of four people running and all the stats you provided did is prove me correct. In fact in shows he barely beat the other Republican. As I sadi before, state law requires at least one person from the majority party on the Commission which is the only reason he still has a job. Clearly by the voter turn out and results, if a 3rd Democrat were allowed to run, it'…   more ›

Lansdale Republican Club Not Endorsing Council Incumbents

The Lansdale Republican Club is throwing its support behind four new faces for candidacy for Lansdale Borough Council. Incumbents Dan Dunigan and Mike Sobel are seeking re-election.

The Lansdale Republican Club last month voted to endorse four new faces for candidacy for Lansdale Borough Council, thereby not endorsing two incumbent Republicans seeking re-election. Dan Dunigan and Mike Sobel will run again for council in 2013. However, the LRC has chosen to endorse newcomers Jean Fritz in Ward One, Tom Work in Ward Two, and Walter "Cory" Brown and Peter Schmitt in Ward Three. Work is a member of the Lansdale Parking Authority. Dunigan and Sobel responded with Letters to the Editor on the endorsement meeting. Both claim that the LRC is using the four endorsed candidates as "puppets" to push party politics and not put Lansdale Borough first. Both claim that they were not endorsed because they did not put the Lansdale …

Councilman: Vote for Who is Right for Lansdale, Not for GOP

Republican Mike Sobel is running for re-election to Lansdale Borough Council. He and incumbent Republican Dan Dunigan were not endorsed by the Lansdale Republican Club. Sobel questions the choices of endorsed Ward Two candidate Tom Work.

Mike Sobel is an incumbent Republican councilman in Lansdale Borough. He is running for re-election and is facing a battle in the Primary. He and incumbent Republican Councilman Dan Dunigan were not endorsed by the Lansdale Republican Club. Lansdale Republican Club Chairman Frank Bartle has not returned emails seeking comment. - Ed. Fellow residents of Lansdale, my name is Mike Sobel. I am a current, sitting borough councilman representing Lansdale’s Ward Two. Our town is at a crossroads, coming upon us very quickly on May 21 of this year. Yes, it’s Primary Day. I will be running for re-election this term as a Republican candidate. However, I am not the candidate endorsed by the local Republican Club.  I was unceremoniously “disinvited” to…

Councilman: Lansdale GOP is 'Politics and Puppeteers'

Republican Councilman Dan Dunigan is up for reelection in the 2013 election to Lansdale Borough Council.

Dan Dunigan is an incumbent Republican councilman in Lansdale Borough. He is running for re-election and is facing a battle in the Primary. He and incumbent Republican Councilman Mike Sobel were not endorsed by the Lansdale Republican Club. Lansdale Republican Club Chairman Frank Bartle has not returned emails seeking comment. - Ed. Welcome to Lansdale — Party Politics and Puppeteers. Several weeks ago, I was invited to the Lansdale Republican Club’s endorsement meeting on March 25, after having been disinvited a month earlier by Club Chairman Frank Bartle, the managing partner at Dischell, Bartle & Dooley and a former Lansdale Borough solicitor for many years. I knew I faced an uphill battle for this endorsement, despite having been …

Lansdale Nomination Petitions Paint Picture of Primary

While still unofficial, nomination petitions for Lansdale Borough Council show a battle for five open seats. The mayor and tax collector positions will be decided in November.

Nomination petitions submitted to Montgomery County Voter Services on Tuesday, while still unofficial, paint a Primary that could change the face of Lansdale Borough Council. One change is already evident—Council President Matt West is not running for re-election. West said there are three reasons why he is not seeking re-election—and their ages are eight, five and two-and-a-half. "It is time for me to step away for a bit and make up for some of the time I lost with my family over the past four years," West said. "This borough is on the cusp of an amazing transformation and I look forward to watching the next group of council members working together to achieve greatness." West said one of his goals throughout the past four years has been …
