Keep Borough Hall, Lansdale Residents Urge

Residents, council members, the borough manager and the mayor all expressed their opinions and facts about the future of Lansdale Borough Hall.

While a motion to enter into a contract with Spiezle Architects on the development of two alternative designs for the future municipal complex at Vine and Broad streets was delayed at the Feb. 20 Lansdale Council meeting, residents packed the meeting room to hear concerns and express opinions on the historic building. There was also another debate, this one limited to councilmembers and Mayor Andy Szekely: Should a Request for Proposal go out for the design of the complex and not be awarded to Spiezle, who won the bid for the initial Facilities and Grounds Study? Resident Bill Henning was the mastermind behind a petition on Change.org to stop the destruction of Lansdale Borough Hall. The petition features signatures of many residents and …

311 W. Main St.: The Visions of the People

Residents, task force members offer their dreams and goals for the future downtown community center

There is a vision for 311 W. Main Street in Lansdale, and residents and task force members made those dreams known Tuesday night. The Task Force Visions Task force member Doug Pett said the center should be a local destination for the performing arts community and the community at-large. “It’s going to generate business back in Lansdale. The whole idea of why I am interested in it is it’s going to revitalize the borough,” he said. “All the important things happening throughout the borough are phenomenal. I think this is one more thing that’s going to add to the welcome and the ‘ooh’ and ‘ahh’ of Lansdale.” Task force member Lindsay Schweriner would like to see a fixed auditorium and a flexible space in the center. The aesthetics of an …

311 Can't be everything for everyone. It requires sharp focus and intensive research to fit the community. A local theatre or musical venue may not be able to draw the quality shows that would bring folks here. Lansdale, in my four years here, builds big expectations for renewal, but falls short. Perhaps interesting a community college or state university into making it an extension is possible. …   more ›

No Big Deal

Free Wood is Good on Earth Day

Lansdale residents should take advantage of free mulch and chips for yard landscaping

The celebration of Earth Day is here again, even into the weekend, and everybody has their minds on how to enjoy natural elements in their everyday lives.  Most look to their own yards and plant a tree or fix up their gardens after months of winter weather.  With all of the improvements, you might need to make to bring your yard back to life it can get very costly, very quickly. Lansdale residents can take advantage of an easy free resource for their gardens.  Over the year the borough employees pick up tree limbs that fall during  the course of storms, the collection of christmas trees and shrubs and trees that are dropped off by residents.  All of this great natural material is sent through a chipper and the result is a LARGE pile of …
