Montgomeryville-Lansdale Patch readers were asked Monday via Facebook for their reactions and comments on the announcement of the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI, effective Feb. 28. Everyone from atheists and agnostics to Protestant supports and Catholic stalwarts responded to the post. Reader Patrick Sullivan said, "As an atheist my first reaction was 'oh.' Upon second thought, my reaction was 'meh.'" Byrnes also wondered if Benedict would lose the diplomatic …

Van Dame Appointed to Lansdale Council, Will Serve Out Veep's Term

When Paul Clemente resigned from his role in December, council requested submissions of interest to fill the Ward One vacancy and serve out the remainder of Clemente's term. Jason Van Dame was chosen over Jeff Howard in a unanimous vote

With what councilmembers called "two great candidates" before them and with a decision that was "like splitting hairs," Jason Van Dame, a fourth-generation Lansdalian, was appointed unanimously to fill the vacated Ward One seat on borough council Wednesday night. Van Dame and resident Jeff Howard were the only two Ward One residents who submitted letters of interest in December to fill the vacancy left by a resigning Paul Clemente. Van Dame, a registered Independent, will serve out Clemente's remaining term, ending Dec. 31, 2013. He would then need to run in the election for a chance to keep his seat. "Yes, at this point, I do plan to run in the fall," he said. Van Dame doesn't have an agenda. "I want to ensure that the borough continues …

311 W. Main Task Force Vacancy Needs NPSD Resident

Amy Rims stepped down from her position on the task force due to a move to Bucks County, and questions why no task force members supported her art shows

A vacancy has opened on the 311 W. Main Task Force in Lansdale with the resignation of North Penn School District resident Amy Rims. Rims was asked to step down due to her move to Sellersville, Bucks County. Borough Manager Timi Kirchner said the task force and its members are governed by an ordinance, one that defines the composition of the task force. The task force ordinance calls for 11 members. Four of those members must be council members. Four other members must have an established arts and entertainment background and need not be from the North Penn district. The remaining three members must be North Penn residents or own a business in the North Penn district. Rims was one such member. "Amy was appointed to the task force as a …

Allebach Leaving Manna After 12 Years

The Manna on Main Street director will be moving on to work with Sitecats Web Development

When Tom Allebach gives up the reins at Manna on Main Street Jan. 27, he is not giving up nearly 13 years of falling in love with the North Penn community and the 700-plus households the nonprofit deals with on a daily basis. He will continue to be a supporter of Manna, and a supporter of its mission to help the less fortunate and needy clientele in the North Penn School District area. “I’m going to miss interacting with all the people here. The clients and their families are really great,” he said. “We have wonderful volunteers and I really love our staff and board.” “It’s the people that I’m going to miss,” he said. “It’s bittersweet, but more sweet than anything.” Manna is poised to move its headquarters from St. John's United Church of…

Zellers Resigning as Borough Treasurer

Treasurer had given back her salary to the borough and volunteered services

Carol Zellers, a real estate agent with Re/Max Central in Lansdale, has submitted her resignation as treasurer for Lansdale Borough, effective Dec. 31. “I’m resigning because it’s time. Four years is enough,” she said. “That was a big volunteer commitment every week and I was happy to do it, but it’s time for someone else to have the opportunity, to see what goes on, how the borough works and to appreciate just how hard these people work.” Zellers announced her resignation at the Oct. 19 council meeting. “This, in and of itself, is entirely unremarkable, because people come, people serve and people go. It’s the circle of life. That’s how it works,” she said. Zellers was appointed treasurer in January 2008 by then council President Ben …
