One Dead Following SWAT Situation in Montgomery Township

Unidentified man allegedly threatened his mother with a handgun, causing her to flee the home, then took his own life; Village at Neshaminy Falls cordoned off by police for much of Wednesday afternoon

A lengthy police standoff prompted by a domestic dispute in Montgomery Township ended Wednesday afternoon with the discovery that a 47-year-old township man had taken his own life. Montgomery Township police said the man, whom they did not identify, had pointed a handgun at his mother following an argument Wednesday morning. The man's mother arrived at the township police department at about 10:30 a.m., police said, and informed them of the situation. She told police that she had been unable to call 9-1-1 because her son had disconnected the telephone at the residence and threatened her with the gun when she attempted to reconnect it. Police Standoff in Telford Results in One Arrest

"High risk warrant" leads to neighborhood being cordoned off Monday evening

Update 9:24 p.m. The previous update was incorrect: there was not a second subject in the residence. One subject is in custody, as previously reported, from a home on the 100 block of North Station Street in Telford. Tactical team units, including snipers, are being discharged from the scene. One radio report indicated that two "canisters" were "deployed by hand" into the attic of the residence during the operation. According to a search on the Montgomery County Magisterial District Courts docket sheets, the suspect identified on police radio, Steven Alen Johnson aka Steven Allen Johnson, 31, has an inactive case from April 2011 in Telford Borough. Man in Custody After Standoff in Hatfield

A 33-year-old man was talked down by a negotiator from inside a residence belonging to N. Paone Construction Inc. on Bergey Road in Hatfield

A 33-year-old suicidal man barricaded in a home at 3220 Bergey Road in Hatfield Township was taken into custody around 5 p.m. after a three-hour standoff with Hatfield Township Police and the North Penn Tactical Response Team. The North Penn Tactical Response Team and an armored Bearcat were called in because there was a threat of firearms, according to Hatfield Township Detective Pat Hanrahan. Police were dispatched to the home at 1:45 p.m. for a report of a suicidal subject. Hanrahan said a male in the residence made threats to a friend via text message that he intended to harm himself. Felony Kidnapping, Assault Charges for Telford Hostage Suspect

Emilio Sciortino Jr., 21, allegedly kidnapped his estranged wife, handcuffed her, gagged her and beat her at his home. He is being held on $3 million cash bail.

Telford Borough Police have identified the man in Tuesday's hostage situation at 42 Indian Valley Lane as 21-year-old Emilio Sciortino Jr. He is being held at Montgomery County prison in lieu of $3 million cash bail. Sciortino Jr. is charged with felony kidnapping, felony aggravated and felony simple assaults, felony discharge of a firearm into an occupied building, and misdemeanor charges of recklessly endangering another person, terroristic threats, unlawful restraint and false imprisonment, police said. Additional charges are likely, police said. Sciortino Jr. was held overnight in Lansdale Police lockup and was arraigned Wednesday before District Judge Kenneth Deatelhauser. A 21-year-old Telford man was taken into custody on Tuesday afternoon after holding his wife hostage and firing shots through the wall of his house with a high-powered rifle, police said. Telford Borough Chief of Police Randy Floyd declined to identify the man, saying only that he was "known" to local police and that the police department would be discussing charges with the Montgomery County District Attorney's office. Paroled Burglar Dead at Lower Providence Motel After SWAT Lockdown

Gunshot wound apparently self-inflicted; had been staying at Philadelphia halfway house

A paroled burglar who fired shots at Lower Providence police officers from a motel room on Sunday evening was later found dead inside that room from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.  Police surrounded the Blue Eagle Motel on Ridge Pike after Ricardo Norris, 48, fired shots and "narrowly missed striking the officers" who had knocked on the motel room door to serve him with a warrant, according to a statement released by the Lower Providence Township Police Department. The officers did not return fire and called for support.
