Charges Withdrawn, Felonies Remain Against 2011 Lansdale Drive-By Suspects

Two Philadelphia men charged in connection with a September 2011 drive-by shooting in the Wedgewood development in Lansdale had charges withdrawn and others upheld at their preliminary hearings Thursday morning. Police said John Sambath, 19, of the 1600 block of S. 15th St., and Christian Vietri, 21, of the 1200 block of S. 11th St., were involved in the shooting on the 900 block of Wedgewood Drive on Sept. 4, 2011. The shooting left one man injured, resulting in a felony criminal attempted homicide charged lodged against Sambath. Assistant District Attorney Rebecca Strubel withdrew the felony burglary charge and the felony criminal trespass charge against Sambath. Strubel also withdrew two counts of misdemeanor simple assault and two …

Two Philadelphia men have been charged — but one remains at large — for their alleged involvement in a drive-by shooting in the Wedgewood development in Lansdale in September 2011. John Sambath, 19, of the 1600 block of S. 15th St., and Christian Vietri, 21, of the 1200 block of S. 11th St., were involved in the shooting on the 900 block of Wedgewood Drive on Sept. 4, 2011, police said. Sambath has been arraigned and awaits a preliminary hearing for Jan. 3, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Lansdale district court. He faces a felony criminal attempted homicide charge for allegedly shooting a man outside a home in Wedgewood in Lansdale. Hearing Against Convenience Store Robbery Suspect Continued, Drug Charges Upheld

The preliminary hearing against 2011 convenience store robbery suspect Jurell Smalls, 20, was continued by District Judge Harold Borek Tuesday, due to a court-certified Bengali interpreter not assigned to the hearing. Borek chastised Lansdale Police and the Montgomery County prosecutor's office for not notifying Lansdale district court 38-1-28 that an official interpreter was needed for the hearing. Montgomery County ADA Heather Levandoski called victim Abdul Chowdhury and another Bengali man to the stand, but were stopped by Borek. Borek called recess and spoke with the county court administrator. Lansdale Arrests Suspect in 2011 Convenience Store Robbery

Police have arrested a Lansdale man for his alleged role in the September 2011 robbery of Famous Grocery Store on West Main Street. He was also charged in a separate incident where a search warrant was conducted on his home for alleged drug violations. Jurell Smalls, 20, of the 100 block of East Third Street, was one of the actors involved in the September 5, 2011 armed robbery of Famous Grocery convenience store at 21 W. Main Street, police said. Two men robbed the store, police said, with one firing a gun, according to the clerk on duty. The clerk was not injured, but robbers made off with about $400 cash, police said.
