Changes Allow More Outside Signage at Mall

Montgomery Township Supervisors this month amended the sign ordinance for the regional shopping center district — aka Montgomery Mall. Now, retailers inside the mall can install exterior signage

Montgomery Mall retailers will now be able to put signage on the exterior of the mall. In a The Reporter Online story by Dan Sokil, Montgomery Township supervisors this month updated its sign ordinance as it relates to the regional shopping district, by editing discrepancies and inconsistencies in various provisions. Under the new changes, according to the article, businesses inside the mall with a maximum of 5,000 square feet of floor area can have a 125-square-foot outside sign, even on an awning. Businesses between 5,000 and 10,000 square feet can have a 125-square-foot sign, plus extra area for the amount of floor space over 5,000, according to the article. Doggie Style at 20 Airport Sq. North Wales closed down the store today without telling employees and customers. Employees came to the store to find everything packed up and gone. A lot of dogs have been hurt and abused by this company.   more ›

Ordinance Changes Give Liberties to Sign Shapes, Sizes

Lansdale Borough Council unanimously approved the sign changes to awning and wall signs Wednesday night

It must have sucked to be a sign on Lansdale's Main Street. Until Wednesday, you could only be one type of sign — rectangular. Now, signs have their freedom in Lansdale. Circular signs, square signs and any shape of sign up to 60 square feet are now permitted on walls in Lansdale Borough. In addition, signs on awnings aren't limited to just the end panels and skirts of awnings. They can be on the front of awnings now. Borough council held a public hearing Wednesday night to amend two parts of the Lansdale sign ordinance of the zoning code. They later voted 8-0 to approve the changes. Town Hall: Changes in Sign Ordinance in Works

The borough planning commission is hard at work revamping the language and rules of the Lansdale sign ordinance

Lansdale Community Development Director John Ernst explained to those in attendance at the town hall session this month that the planning commission is underway with revamping the borough's sign ordinance, specifically wall mounted signs. A clause in that part of the ordinance said a wall-mounted sign mut be a 2:1 ratio. According to the ordinance, "the maximum size of a wall sign is 60 square feet. The maximum applies whether there is one wall sign or four wall signs, so that the total square footage of the four wall signs may not exceed 60 square feet."
