January Showers Bring February Flowers?

Unseasonably warm air will engulf the region this week, as high temperatures may hit records making it feel like mid-spring.

This week may be no suprise to some people, since this winter season has been the fourth warmest in recorded history. That rank may become even closer to number one as the meteorological winter comes to an end next week.  The meteorological winter runs from December through February, and depending on how warm the high temperatures reach within the week, this winter may almost be the warmest ever in some cities.  Today, expect mostly sunny skies and the start of mild temperatures resulting in a beautiful day. High temperatures will creep into the upper 50s with a south-southeast wind increasing in the afternoon at 10 to 15 mph. Tonight, clouds will increase with the possibility for some isolated showers in spots. The night temperatures will…

Is the Weekend Winter Storm A Bust?

Today and tomorrow will be pleasant with sunshine and a few clouds, but will a major winter storm plow the region on Sunday?

After saying this several times, I am going to say it again: This winter is really frustrating. For the last couple of days, several weather enthusiasts like myself have been baffled with the possibility of a snowstorm this Sunday. Every model after the next has been part of this unsettling war, in that predicting such a system is extremely difficult and risky. The problem is warning the public about such a system.  On a lighter note, the storm is most likely going to move a little south making our region escape such a major impact on snow accumulations. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news for the snow lovers out there. Today will be nice with clouds breaking way to partly sunny skies in the afternoon. High temperatures are expected to …

Will This Week Finally Bring Us Some Snow?

Temperatures will remain mild for today and tomorrow, but winter will strike back for a chance to possibly bring us some wintry precipitation

As everyone awakes from a late night of partying post the Super Bowl, it is now time to get back on schedule. The weather this week will be on a rollercoaster as warm temperatures are fighting against a massive cold air mass from the north pushing its way southward. From the looks of things, it seems that cooler air will hang around for a while. To start things off, Monday morning's commute was chilly, calm, and clear with temperatures around 30 degrees. The afternoon will be pleasant with sunny skies and high temperatures in the upper 40s. Some areas could reach the lower 50s. As night falls, expect mostly clear skies and temperatures in the mid 30s. Tuesday will almost be the same as today, with mostly sunny skies and high temperatures …

No Need to Panic With Impending Snow

"No need to stock up," said Accuweather.com meteorologist

The rain-snow mix headed our way overnight won't be much of anything for residents in the Philadelphia region. "It's not going to be too much," said Accuweather.com meteorologist Mike Pigott. "I do think eventually that the rain, which will be heavy at times this evening, will mix with a little bit of snow late tonight." He said the rain-to-snow crossover will occur in the North Penn area around midnight to 1 a.m. "In terms of actual accumulation, a coating to maybe an inch on grassy surfaces. On paved surfaces, you will not see much at all - very little to no accumulation," Pigott said. Almost the entire state will see a rain-to-snow event.  "Right now, it's more the backside of rain ending as snow," Pigott said. "Some areas out toward …

A Storm's A-Coming

Accuweather.com meteorologist Rob Miller said "all the right ingredients" are in place to make it a heavy snowstorm

It’s unavoidable and inevitable – we are getting snow tomorrow. Accuweather.com meteorologist Rob Miller said our area could see between three to six inches of snow tomorrow afternoon and night on unpaved surfaces, and about two to four inches on roadways and sidewalks. “It looks like it’s going to be one of these events,” he said. “It will come in later tonight, early tomorrow morning as rain, but by late in the morning, early afternoon, we will see rain mixed with and changed over to snow.” Miller said there is a possibility of heavy snow in the afternoon and evening hours. “For the most part, the worst will be over by 9 p.m. to 10 p.m., and certainly by 1 a.m. or 2 a.m., everything will be gone and out of the area,” he said. The …

Snowmageddon: Top of the third and ready to bat

Towamencin Township is being defended tonight by a team of well-salted machines.

Bill Gagliana works for Towamencin Township and is working all night tonight to get ahead of this "snowvalanche" that the local weather channels have been predicting for the last day or so. Right now, it's 11 p.m. and Bill is refuleing for his next run. And by refueling I mean coffee -- and lots of it. "What I've been doing for awhile now is salting everything really heavy to get ahead of this. We'll give it a chance to work in, then get our trucks fittied with plows and get ready to go," he said. Fighting a serious snow threat like this is what these guys are prepared for. Tonight's lineup has a team of 14 seasoned snowslayers that are at the ready for this battle with the cold white stuff. The team spent the most of the day today …

Snow threat keeping Wilson's Hardware busy

It's sold out of snowblowers and there's some sleds left, but Wilson's Hardware and Locksmiths keeps residents ready for the snow

There's plenty of shovels hanging on the wall and bags galore of rock salt, potassium chloride and calcium chlorie on skids outside. Oh, and don't forget the toboggans and sleds behind the counter. Wilson's Hardware and Locksmiths in Lansdale has been very busy getting customers prepared and ready for the third winter wallop from Mother Nature. "We are sold out of snowblowers," said owner Joe Flyzik. "Unfortunately, once the suppliers ship the initial ones out and the backstock is sold, there's no more coming in. We are done until next fall." He said an awful lot of people pre-order snowblowers from Wilson's Hardware and Locksmiths in the beginning of the year. Wilson's had five snowblower available, and one was brought in special for a …
