Five Things to Know Today: B-Dawk Speaks, $1,000 Giveaway and More

The North Penn High School Student Government Association holds a student talent show at 7:30 p.m., featuring 14 acts. The winner will be selected by live text message voting from members of the audience. Prizes for the top three acts. Admission is $5.

Be Prepared: Local Boy Scouts Test First Aid Skills

More than 180 Scouts from the General Nash District, comprising North Penn and Souderton school districts, improved and tested their First Aid skills at the district's annual First Aid Meet at Indian Valley Middle School Saturday morning

Inside Indian Valley Middle School in Lower Salford Township Saturday, a young man was seriously injured with a broken arm. Another you male had hypothermia, and, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries. At least two other teens were treated for wounds and injuries, and were transported to safety via a stretcher made out of wooden rods and blankets. While the injuries were fake, the scenarios were real at the annual Boy Scouts of America General Nash District First Aid Meet. According to co-organizer Jeff Baer, of Troop 84 in North Wales Borough, 186 Scouts from 31 patrols from 17 different troops in the North Penn and Souderton Area school districts were competing for top honors at the meet, and a chance to go home with the Robert S. …

Telford Man Admits to Robbing El Aguacate

Souderton restaurant robbed in September. Robber sentenced to fines, court costs, probation.

A Telford man was forced to pay an $100 fine and returned the $290 he admitted to stealing from a Souderton restaurant as part of his sentence. He will be forced to pay the court costs and also serve five years of probation, as well. Luis A. Rivera-Fernandez, 39, of the 100 block of North Main Street, Telford, admitted to robbing the restaurant in 2012, according to a report on the Philly Burbs website. Rivera-Fernandez’s sentence came down as a result from a September robbery of El Aguacate Restaurant 38 W. Broad St., Souderton. Police were reportedly dispatched at 9:20 p.m. The case’s criminal complaint states Rivera-Fernandez yelled at a female behind the counter to “give me the money and nothing will happen to you.” Philly Burbs …

You can't beat candy and Santa. You also can't beat community, as thousands packed West Main Street from Mitchell to Memorial Park Saturday for the 62nd Mardi Gras Parade in Lansdale. There were oohs, there were ahs, there was Santa Claus. This year, his elves were Towamencin volunteer firefighters, and his sleigh, Engine 76-4. He was paraded through town by the likes of North Penn Marching Band, Souderton's Big Red Band, Fairmount Fire Co., Hilltown Fire Co., Lansdale Cannoneers, North Penn YMCA (and Adventure Guides), 4-H Clubs, Mater Dei Catholic School, Knights 4 Life, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Brownies, cops, clowns and — literally — cheerleaders.
