Storms have the potential to dampen weekend plans, but we need the rainfall
We've had a wide array of weather extremes the past two weekends — extreme heat with 100 degree weather last Saturday and severe weather the past two weekends in parts of the region. The trend of uneven, not completely nice, weekends of weather continues this weekend as a disturbance moves through the Great Lakes and Northeast. This disturbance will push humidity northward into our region, bringing the chance for thunderstorms late in the day Saturday and most of the day on Sunday. It will not be a total washout all weekend, but thunderstorms will be around — some of them featuring heavy rainfall, as moisture levels in the atmosphere will become somewhat tropical as the airmass becomes progressively humid this weekend. Isolated flooding…

The first heat wave was brutal, but brief. So, for this weekend, expect high temperatures to soar into the upper 90s once again
Has anyone realized that it has been really nice over the past several days? These are the moments we forget to take advantage of. If you're a person for the heat, this weekend into next week will be a dream come true, but for the others this will be horrific. The first heat wave of the year started on the first day of summer and lasted for three days. The second heat wave, which started yesterday, will continue as far as Tuesday. Today will be the hottest of them all with high temperatures peaking between 96 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The higher values are expected in areas closer to Philadelphia. There will be partly cloudy skies and a nice breeze from the west northwest at 10 to 15 mph. By nightfall, temperatures will be in the low-80s …

After a well-below average June, temperatures will finally feel like summer for the weekend
It seemed like summer went on vacation for a while, causing newly-opened pools to become abandoned, but changes are on the way for the next several days. The reason behind the elongated cold and gloomy weather was because of a high-pressure system sitting around Greenland. In meteorology slang, these type of systems are called "blocking highs" since they block the planetary wave patterns from easily moving around the globe. A trough or concaved shape of pressure typically causes cooler temperatures to move into the region inside the trough. In conclusion, the "blocking high" was causing this trough to sit over our region for a long period of time giving us spring-like weather. The good news is that change is the light at the end of the …

After several days of hot and humid weather, spring will come back with a punch!
Mother Nature really needs to get her act together. As a meteorologist, even I feel that climate isn't relevant information when predicting the weather. Last week was way above average and almost completely unbearable to handle. High temperatures broke some records with magnitudes as high as 98 degrees Fahrenheit. For the next week, that kind of weather will be out of the picture. A large trough, or in other words, a continental polar air mass, will dominate a large section of the Central and Eastern United States. Consider it as May playing July's role and June is going to play April. Confusing? Well that is 2012 weather for you. Starting with today, partly cloudy skies will turn into mostly cloudy skies in the late afternoon, as a low …

After several days of dark, gloomy and wet weather, the sun will finally come out in time for college graduation ceremonies
This is a special week for hundreds of college students as they graduate from their universities and break out into the real world. Mother Nature is going to be nice from Thursday to Sunday and Mother's Day might be the reason. Today will be the last day for grey and wet weather, as the majority of the day will yet again be run by overcast skies. Many sources indicate high temperatures to peak in the mid-70s, but with no sun in sight the result may be slightly cooler around 70 degrees. Showers are expected to arrive in the evening hours, most likely after 7 p.m. Temperatures will fall into the upper 50s. For Thursday, the everlasting overcast skies will clear out by early morning. Partly cloudy skies and high temperatures in the mid- to -…

After a slightly chilly month, May has come in like a lamb with temperatures expected to surge into the 70s and 80s this week.
Everytime it's the beginning of a new month I always find myself saying, "Wow, it's all ready (current month)?!" For me, this month is special for a couple reasons: Other than that, the type of weather is my favorite too. The most tornadoes typically occur this month and the temperatures are perfect, averaging in the mid-70s. This week will be a perfect example of May-like weather, as high temperatures may reach the mid-80s by Friday. There is one problem that is occuring within the next couple of days though: A high-pressure system will be sitting just east of Maine causing surface winds in our area to be blowing from the east. Cooler air from the Atlantic will cause the high temperatures to have trouble making it into the upper-60s to …

We should hit the upper 70s by mid-week and into the 80s by the weekend
Last Sunday's coastal storm and its resulting hangover of cool weather in our region resulted in eight straight days of below-average temperatures, which is the longest such stretch we've seen since the end of October. This spell of March-like cool has about one more day in it before we have a quick rebound in weather when the pattern shifts, rather markedly, Monday night. That's when a warm front will lift through the region, spreading some showers and storms as it passes through. The forecast for Tuesday features optimistic highs in the upper half of the 70s - that assumes early departure by the rainfall and the return of sunshine. If clouds linger, however, and the warm front doesn't push far enough north, temperatures could be a good…

Here's a look at the forecast for this weekend

After a rollercoaster ride of weather events, there should be some average April-like weather in store for the week
Can anyone believe that parts of central/west Pennsylvania recieved over 18 inches of snow last Sunday into Monday? Well you should believe it because certain areas in the higher elevations woke up Monday morning to a winter wonderland in late-April. This area fortunately skipped out on this, but cold temperatures and gloomy weather did partake within the last couple of days. The good news is that the weather will slightly settle with about average temperatures and April-like weather conditions during the rest of the week. Today was partly sunny with a slight chance of a stray shower. The high temperatures reached the low 60s with a west wind of 5 to 8 mph. As for the evening, clouds will start to increase as a disturbance from the west …

Partly cloudy skies and warmer weather will blanket the region this week
Lately, it has been about 15 to 20 degrees above average and there hasn't been any complaints. Here are some of Monday's sweltering high temperatures: These temperatures are above average for the middle of July and it's only the middle of April! Some sigh of relief is expected as the weather has calmed down and will stay relatively steady for a while. Expect to see about average temperatures for the next couple of days. Today will be pleasantly normal with partly sunny skies. The sun may have some trouble peeking through the clouds, as a small disturbance passes to the south. High temperatures will reach the low- to mid-60s. North-northwest winds at 3 to 6 mph. During the night, clouds will decrease, giving way to partly cloudy conditions…
