King Pinz Bowling Center Eyes Winter 2014 Opening

An 18-lane bowling alley with 150-inch TVs at the end of each lane, along with a bar, restaurant, arcade and laser tag maze, is proposed at the Hillcrest Plaza in Lansdale in the old Clemens/SuperFresh location.

The 18-lane bowling alley and family entertainment center known as King Pinz is still coming to Lansdale. Proprietors PMC Entertainment—a BuxMont investment group—still has a signed lease for the former Clemens/SuperFresh space at Hillcrest Shopping Plaza on East Main Street. The local investors know King Pinz Family Entertainment Center will improve that piece of Lansdale. "The group is still pursuing the development and has been working through the structure of the business model with its supporting lenders," said PMC Entertainment in a press release. "The development site has remained unchanged. We would like to be open by the end of the year to capture the holiday business." The investment group has completed a full engineering study, …

Lansdale Public Safety Resolves Issues for Residents of Highland, Forest Avenues

Lansdale Police Chief Robert McDyre reviewed with the public safety committee this month several concerns brought up by residents near the proposed Lansdale Collaborative Project

Residents living on or near Highland Avenue and Forest Avenue in Lansdale may be pleased to know several traffic and public safety issues have been fully addressed by the borough. At a Lansdale Public Safety Committee report this month, Lansdale Police Chief Robert McDyre outlined eight issues that have either been solved or continue to be monitored by the borough. Most of the issues were brought to the attention of the committee at a July 11 meeting and revolved around the upcoming Lansdale Collaborative Project, spearheaded by the North Penn YMCA and involving Advanced Living, The PEAK Center and Manna on Main Street. McDyre reported that he and Councilwoman Mary Fuller met with residents to "whittle down" their issues. Review of …

Freedom Valley, Philadelphia YMCAs May Merge

A town hall meeting on the merger is scheduled for Monday evening.

A merger is in the works between the Philadelphia Area YMCA and the Freedom Valley YMCA; however, not everyone is pleased about the prospect or the process.  Both YMCA boards have voted to approve the merger and members recently received letters explaining the deal and how members can vote. The Y is holding a town hall meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 12, at the Spring Valley YMCA on Linfield-Trappe Road in Limerick. This town hall comes in advance of the vote, which is scheduled to happen at Chadwick's Restaurant in Audubon on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. Philadelphia Area YMCA CEO John Flynn told Patch in a phone interview that the merger came about as the two organizations began working more closely together. "We realized that we could …

Buck Davis-how arrogant you are! Your statements are irrelevant and unfounded and deserve nothing but contempt..Why don't you firstly get your facts right before you spread evil lies and rumors, and secondly realize that your fears of a merger that makes sense are because you are a bigot and a racist! Why not use this energy and passion you have to spread some compassion and kindness to people …   more ›

Resident Fears Manna Clientele Will Endanger Neighborhood

Sharon Dean, of Highland Avenue, is worried about "the type of people" that Manna on Main Street could attract when it moves near her neighborhood with the Lansdale Collaborative Project. She brought her concerns to Lansdale's public safety committee

Highland Avenue resident Sharon Dean has no problem with the proposed future location of Manna on Main Street as part of the Lansdale Collaborative Project, proposed on the former site of Lans-Bowl on East Main Street. What she does have a problem with, she said, is the type of people that will be in and out of her neighborhood. Dean, who appeared with other residents before the committee last month, brought her concerns to the Lansdale Public Safety Committee last Wednesday. In the end, Lansdale Police Chief Robert McDyre told her that the borough cannot prevent a landowner from building what it wants within code and ordinance, but it can be proactive in making sure problems don't happen in the neighborhood. There is also a plan in the …

Reading this article makes me so angry and sad at the same time. My mother goes to NHS and I am horrified that this women works there. To know that my mother may have to come in contact with someone with these prejudices when going to the very place that is supposed to help her makes me want to cry. People are born with mental illnesses and Dean's derogatory statements are the reason a lot of …   more ›

Lansdale Collaborative Project Raises Concerns

Residents near the former Lans-Bowl fear increased traffic will jeopardize the safety of their community, a told to Lansdale Public Safety Committee Wednesday night

The Lansdale Borough Public Safety Committee was met with residents' concerns about the impact of the North Penn YMCA project on the community at its Wednesday meeting. The $28-million Lansdale Collaborative Project will house the North Penn YMCA, The Peak Center, Manna on Main Street and Advanced Living Communities under one roof in the former Lans Bowl property. Residents primarily of Forest, Church, and Highland avenues expressed their many concerns regarding the additional traffic that the YMCA project will generate in an area where cars already “blow through stop signs,” as one resident stated in the meeting. “There will be an access road placed only eight feet from my fence,” resident John Walz stated.  “According to the plans, cars …

If they're so concerned about "are no sidewalks or crosswalks to keep them away from motorists speeding down our streets", then why aren't they asking for those? Instead of trying to congest traffic with extra regulations, how about getting the kids out of the streets to begin with? The fact that this wasn't even mentioned puts the whole "for the kids" reasoning in a questionable light.   more ›

Residents 'Blindsided' by YMCA Expansion

Residents in the neighborhood of Forest Avenue, Highland Avenue and Church Road have asked Lansdale Borough for better notification, quicker access to meeting minutes

At the Lansdale Borough town hall meeting last month, a discussion on quicker accessibility to meeting minutes and problems with the expansion of the YMCA and its collaborative project shed some light on what the borough is legally obligated to do when it comes to development. Economic Development Committee Chairwoman and Councilwoman Mary Fuller read a letter at the town hall session from borough resident Jessica Behrle, who owns the property at the corner of Church Road and Forest Avenue. In her letter, Behrle, who read the same letter at the June 20 council meeting, expressed frustration on projects in the borough that have impacted the well-being of her home and family:  I have been trying to access the meeting minutes and agendas for …

Free Admission to The 'Y' On Saturday

"Healthy Kids Day" intended to help keep kids off the couch during the summer months

This weekend, YMCAs across the country will throw open their doors and invite everyone in the community to come in, get active and have fun, at no charge.  Saturday is the official Healthy Kids Day, when 1,900 YMCAs nationwide will host free events to help kids “get up, get out and grow.” More than half a million parents and kids are expected to participate. The reason behind the initiative is simple: The YMCA has recognized that there is a need, especially during this time of year, to encourage kids to be active and remind them that they shouldn’t crash on the couch just because school is out. Research shows that kids are more prone to gain weight and experience reduced mental stimulation during summer months. The Y maintains that summer …
