After being apprehended in 2010 in Abington, a Philadelphia man will face a prison sentence.

He claims he was only the lookout and getaway driver, but a Montgomery County judge decided he deserved a serious punishment for his actions. William Perkins, 64, of Philadelphia, has served much of his life in prison, and according to court dockets has a rap sheet several pages long. He was sentenced Wednesday to 10 to 20 years behind bars for his role in a string of burglaries that occurred in 2010. As Patch reported at the time, Perkins, who also used the aliases of John Potter and William Potter, was taken into custody on Oct. 12, 2010 along with  John Daniel Wilson, 48, of Philadelphia. Levis Brings the Taste of South Philly to Abington

The traditional and famous Levis hot dogs can be found in Abington, as well as in delis around Montgomery and Philadelphia Counties.

Levis Hot Dogs, which has been around in South Philadelphia for over 100 years, had been resurrected in Abington by Elliot Hirsch, owner of the new Levi Hot Dogs on Old York Rd. Hirsh bought Levis in 1990, but closed the business for a few years when a number of different business plans failed. A year ago, Hirsch opened the Levis Hot Dog shop in Abington, following the original Levis hot dog recipe for all beef, lean hot dogs, right out of South Philly. Hirsch, who has a background in product development, spent nearly two years testing the hot dog recipe with a number of manufacturers before finding the manufacturer that could produce hot dogs that look and taste like the ones everyone remembers. However, Hirsch also produces and sells …

2013 — The Year of the Skate Park Lansdale Parks and Recreation Chairwoman Mary Fuller has dubbed this year the year when Lansdale Borough brings a skate park to the community. The committee discussed its early progress on development of such a park Wednesday night. The borough is currently in the "learning mode" and "exploring mode" for the skate park. What was revealed at that meeting — Five potential sites for the park, with the jointly-owned Schweiker Park on the list. Lansdale Parks and Recreation Director Carl Saldutti is meeting with the Hatfield Township Park Board on Monday to update them on the borough's plan. "I want to make sure they understand what our process is. I don't want them to read something that is a surprise," …

I couldn't agree more about allowing bikes at the park. Not only are we taxpayers who get hassled out of local spots, the bmx scene, in lansdale especially, is growing and expanding at a pretty rapid pace. Bikers need a safe place to ride without getting kicked out or fined. Along with the skaters, we can organize and help with the planning, labor, and general upkeep of the park. As far as park …   more ›

Election 2012: 151st District Race

Incumbent Todd Stephens and Democrat Will Sylianteng compete for the legislative district which covers Horsham, Upper Dublin, Ambler, Montgomery Township and Abington.

For Democrat Will Sylianteng, the man contesting incumbent State Rep. Todd Stephens for his seat representing the 151st legislative district, sums up Tuesday as a "good day one way or the other." "We’re at polling places introducing ourselves to people as they come in," Sylianteng told Patch of he and his 30 or so volunteers in place at some of the district's three dozen polling places throughout Horsham, Upper Dublin, Ambler, Montgomery Township and Abington. "You actually go face-to-face with an actual voter." It's different than the 14,000 doors Sylianteng knocked while talking to people who, he said may or may not even cast a vote in the 2012 election. To actually see them about to do that makes for a "pretty enjoyable day," he said. …
