By April 2013 — and in preparation for Obamacare — Abington Health will have acquired nonprofit North Penn Visiting Nurse Association. Officials from both Abington Health and North Penn VNA signed a letter of intent Friday, Nov. 2. The amount of purchase was not released. Abington Health is the umbrella corporation that owns Abington Memorial Hospital and Lansdale Hospital. According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, North Penn VNA's net income dropped from $626,993 to $277,787 in year ending June 30, 2011, as reported in its Form 990 tax return. North Penn VNA had $6.7 million in revenue, as of June 30, 2011, according to the article. The North Penn VNA employs about 100 nurses who provide home care and hospice. The township approved a $5.5 million, 20-year reset loan with Univest Bank in December for the purpose of open space acquisition for a future community center
If Montgomery Township had a wish list, then two things would be right at the top: complete the condemnation lawsuit with the Zehr family and acquire the Zehr tract as open space, and construct and open a community center at Stump and Horsham roads. While the former remains in litigation to this day, the latter may be on the horizon in the next two years. The future of both properties rests with a decision from the state Department of Community and Economic Development. Supervisors approved 4-0-1 Monday night an ordinance to increase the township debt by $5.5 million for open space acquistion. Giant Food Stores buying 16 Genuardi's, including West Point and Chalfont
Giant Food Stores entered into an agreement to purchase 16 Philadelphia-area Genuardi’s stores for $106 million. Included in those 16 stores are the Genuardi’s in West Point and the Genuardi’s in Chalfont. Giant, a Carlisle, Pa.-based company, said it plans on converting the 16 Genuardi’s stores to Giant stores. Genuardi's is a subsidiary of Safeway, Inc. Safeway acquired the Genuardi's stores and name in 2001. For the same reason they tried to merge with Holy Redeemer - they will not be able to survive otherwise. Obamacare only addresses some uninsured, imposes some regulation on health insurance, and levies a whole bunch of taxes, but it does absolutely nothing to control the cost of healthcare or any of the real, true, systemic problems facing the industry.   more ›
