Demolition Possible in Municipal Complex Renovations

Borough Manager Timi Kirchner Wednesday recommended the Administration and Finance Committee consider two of four options for renovations for the Lansdale municipal complex.

Lansdale Borough Manager Timi Kirchner Wednesday night recommended the Administration and Finance Committee consider two of the four alternatives presented last month to council on the renovation or rebuilding of borough hall and the police station. According to Dan Sokil of The Reporter, Kirchner suggested the committee not choose the option that renovated both buildings with additions and the option that renovated borough hall and built a new police station. The remaining two options for the committee are these: demolish both buildings and make a new facility that houses both administration and police, and renovate borough hall and construct a new police station, according to the article. Both remaining options call for the vacation of …

Lansdale May Borrow Additional $10M in Bonds

The 2010 Lansdale Borough General Obligation Bond is down to about $3.1 million of its original $18 million. In order to fund some $11.5 million in capital projects, administration and finance recommends more borrowing at record rates

With the original $18 million 2010 General Obligation Bond down to about $3.1 million, Lansdale Borough Administration and Finance Committee has recommended an additional $10 million in bank-qualified borrowing to cover $11.5 million in infrastructure improvements. Committee Chairman Dan Dunigan informed council this month that a vote would be coming in December on the proposed borrowing. The committee was working on advice from the bond counsel and financial advisor of Boenning & Scattergood. Dunigan said the original $18 million included $9 million in refinancing and $9 million in new funds. "We have on our list about $11.5 million in capital projects to be done or that will be done shortly. We have roughly $10 million of available funds…

Lansdale Vetting Online Access of Meeting Materials

The borough's administration and finance committee will look into making all public meeting documentation and appendices available to the public online

Lansdale Borough may follow in its neighbor's footsteps and start providing municipal documents and appendices related to public meetings on its website. Council voted unanimously to vet making all meeting materials available online. Councilman Rich DiGregorio initially made a recommendation for the Administration and Finance Committee to vet the possibility of providing just the bills over $1,000 on the website. Council approves a list of bills over $1,000 each month.  Council's documentation at public meetings is limited to the agenda. "I have a recommendation about posting our bills over $1,000 on the website for residents to see what we're spending," DiGregorio said. "I think it would be more open for us as a borough. A lot of people …

Lansdale Council Talking Trash in 2012

The concept of a single trash hauler for the borough will be explored beginning January 2012

Lansdale Borough is ready to talk trash – again – in 2012. Administration and finance chairman Dan Dunigan announced at the council work session Wednesday that the committee will consider the concept of a single trash hauler for the borough, prompted by Code Enforcement Committee Chairman Paul Clemente. “It’s widely used, and there are lots of benefits from the environmental/noise side of things to the impact on the streets with 35-ton trucks going down them,” Dunigan said. “Nothing is set in stone.” The last time the borough discussed the single trash hauler concept was between 2005 and 2007. In September 2005, the borough hired firm Gannett-Fleming to develop a Municipal Waste and Recycleables Collection study, which cost $17,500. Of …

Likewise! Plus, it's a service that every residential customer needs, so it's very likely the Borough negotiating as a single entity could command considerable discounts with an individual hauler. Let's see what the numbers say, but I'd be for it in principle.   more ›
