Armed Robbery Hearing Continued Due to Absence of Co-Defendant

Diep Thi Luu, the sister of one co-defendant and the girlfriend of a second co-defendant in an armed robbery incident in Montgomery Township, failed to appear a second time to testify at a preliminary hearing Thursday in Montgomeryville

A pregnant co-defendant in a Montgomery Township armed robbery case — who is also the sister of a second co-defendant and girlfriend of a third co-defendant— failed to appear a second time at the court of District Judge Andrea Duffy in Montgomeryville on Thursday to testify as an eyewitness in her alleged role in the robbery, according to Dan Sokil of The Reporter. Diep Thi Luu is the sister of suspect Pau Chau, of Philadelphia, and the girlfriend of Cleveland Ford Jr., with whom she has a child. According to the article, Montgomery County Assistant District Attorney Teresa Kibelstis asked for a continuance due to the absence of Luu. Luu is expected to give birth in early October. Armed Robbery Preliminary Hearing Bifurcated to Later Date

The Commonwealth opted to split the hearing to a later date in order for a late-term pregnant co-defendant to appear to testify at the hearing of her boyfriend and brother

The preliminary hearing of Cleveland Ford Jr. and Pau Chau, both of Philadelphia, will continue later in the month after the Commonwealth called for a bifurcation in order for a late-term pregnant co-defendant — who is also Ford's girlfriend and Chau's sister — to be present to testify at their hearing. Ford Jr. and Chau, both 25, along with co-defendant, Ford's girlfriend and Chau's sister Diep Thi Luu, 29, are charged in connection with the strong armed robbery of an employee outside LumenOptix on Progress Drive in Montgomery Township on March 30, 2012.
