September is Women in Pain Awareness Month
September is not only National Pain Awareness Month, but it is also Women In Pain Awareness Month in Pennsylvania, thanks to State Sen. Stewart Greenleaf. According to the National Institutes of Health, more than 76.5 million Americans suffer from pain, both chronic and acute. This costs the economy an estimated $100 billion annually in health care expenses, lost income and lost productivity. Women have higher levels of diseases, such as Lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, CRPS (chronic regional pain syndrome) and others that have pain as the major or sole symptom. I am a woman that suffers from diagnoised chronic pain and yes I this article is spot on about the level of care women receive at times from physicians. And thank you State Senator Greenleaf.   more ›
