Landlords of boarding rooms are being charged the same $58 license fee as apartments, but at that cost per room. Landlords are up in arms about it and now the borough codes department is looking into whether or not that fee is revenue neutral
Landlords of the 77 boarding rooms that exist in Lansdale Borough could be getting a break on their license fees. At present, the borough code enforcement department is looking into whether or not the $58 fee per boarding room is revenue neutral. Lansdale officials believe that fee for boarding rooms may be too high. That fee is the same fee paid for apartment inspections. However, the fee covers the entire apartment, not each room, as it does with boarding rooms. "If someone owns a boarding house, with 10 rooms in it, the fee would be $580 for a 10-room boarding house," said Councilman and Code Enforcement Committee Chairman Jack Hansen at Wednesday night's meeting. The code enforcement and land planning committee heard a technology presentation from the Department of Community Development on how instituting IT upgrades has made it more efficient
Lansdale Borough Code Enforcement has started to save the town $5,000 a year in correspondence costs, and started to boost efficiency by 15 percent by moving away from typewriters and paper. Lansdale Department of Code Enforcement employees Chris Kunkel, Andy Krauss, Maria Lohan and Scott Leatherman have worked for some time on ideas to bring the department into the 21st century and beyond. The department presented its eight-week-old IT upgrades and improvement in efficiency to the Code Enforcement and Land Planning Committee last week. "Chris and Andy are working diligently. I feel confident and excited on what we accomplished so far, and what we will accomplish in the future…

A property at 815 N. Towamencin Avenue at Spring Alley, adjacent to the former American Olean Tile property, received the OK from the Lansdale Code Enforcement and Land Planning Committee this month
A proposed one twin and five townhome development on a property at N. Towamencin Avenue and Spring Alley in Lansdale, adjacent to the former American Olean Tile property, received preliminary and final land development approval earlier this month from Lansdale's Land Planning Committee. Now, it's up to council to give the OK; the borough and county planning commissions are in favor of, and have already given their approvals for, the project. At present on the property at 815 N. Towamencin Avenue is a single-family bungalow with a dilapidated chicken coop structure in the rear of the property. The property is bordered at the rear by a grown-over, unused alley. The property is owned by Lansdale residents Kevin Dunigan and Mike Riccio, who …
